How To Find The Best Wholesalers For Your Dropship Business By: How To Find The Best Wholesalers For Your Dropship
The concept of dropshipping via wholesalers has become popular with many small or home-based businesses. The plan is this: The business owner gets in touch with the supplier. The supplier ships the products ordered by the business owner’s, or reseller’s, customers. Here is the difference between retail and dropship businesses: The supplier ships the product to your customer, not to you. The reseller never handles stock. He or she finds customers for a product and then asks the supplier to send the products directly to the customer. The customer pays the reseller the retail value. The reseller pays the supplier at wholesale prices. The difference is the reseller’s profit—simple enough in theory.
The Challenges
In practice, a dropship business is tough. One of the first and biggest challenges you will face as a reseller is how to find a good supplier. In a retail setting, the store usually orders their goods from wholesalers. Once the goods arrive, the retailer pays for them and stocks them in their store or warehouse. The customers browse through the product list (if online) or visit the store and purchase a product. For a dropship reseller, things are rarely this easy.
First, suppliers do not want to work with dropship businesses. They want to do business with resellers who pay cash upfront after purchasing stock. This means they expect you to invest in large amounts of stock. Second, you will need a warehouse or storage facility. Third, your product offerings may be limited if you don’t have room for storing too many different types of items. Fourth, you take on the hassles of a regular retail business—packaging, labeling, shipping, and so on. Last, if the products remain unsold, you lose your investment, what business administrators call zero return on investment.
Locating Wholesalers
The only choice is to find wholesalers willing to work with dropshipping businesses. It may seem impossible, but there are suppliers who offer wholesale or discount prices for small stock purchases. Some advice to launch you dropship business follows:
1. Approach manufacturers directly with a dropshipping proposal. Do not work with large, well-known manufacturing companies, who prefer doing business with large dealers.
2. Look for local manufacturers or suppliers and introduce them to the dropship business. However, your profits may be limited because of the limited reach of the supplier.
3. Find wholesalers via agents. Agents are paid a commission by the supplier, which impacts the wholesale price for resellers. Again, your profits may be limited.
4. Turn to a wholesale directory, perhaps the cheapest and most effective way to find wholesale dropshippers. Directories can be easily accessed online, and they are either free or require a very reasonable membership fee. They act as an online B2B platform to bring together resellers and wholesalers.
Finding the right wholesaler takes a lot of hard work and patience plus a bit of good luck. But, the rewards are worth the effort.(read entire article)(posted on: 2011-02-03)

How Trading With Registered Wholesale Suppliers Helps Your Dropshipping Business By: How Trading With Registered Wholesale Suppliers He
Dropshipping from the comfort of your home offers many advantages: flexible working hours, no commuting, no paperwork, and inexpensive online advertising and communication with customers. However, one of the biggest disadvantages is that you may find it tough to find reliable wholesale suppliers.
Many resellers are so thankful to find wholesale suppliers that they neglect to check if they are genuine businesses. Scams are not uncommon online. It is in the reseller’s interest to deal only with registered traders.
Some of the risks in trading with nonregistered dealers include the following:
1. Fake Business: All it takes to do business online is a website. Resellers do not physically verify addresses and other details of their suppliers. Some wholesale suppliers do not provide any contact details. Other suppliers provide false addresses and nonexistent telephone numbers.
2. Impersonation And Fraud: How do you know if the wholesale suppliers listed on a website are really who they claim to be? There are many suppliers who claim to work for well-known manufacturers and dealers. All of them may not be telling the truth.
3. Financial Loss: You may have paid a membership fee to join a wholesale list. You may have taken orders from customers and paid shipping charges. Just when you think that the orders have reached their destinations, you start receiving complaints about defective items or nondelivery. Whatever the case, you lose money for conducting business with an unreliable supplier.
4. Loss Of Business Reputation: In business, reputation counts for everything. Customers recommend businesses they like, opening doors to more customers. But, if your supplier does not keep his end of the bargain, you will lose face with your customers. Customers do not know that the supplier is the culprit. You are the person they approach when they are not delivered a product or it is delivered in a poor condition.
How can you minimize these risks? There are two popular methods for finding reliable wholesale suppliers:
1. Auction Websites: Online marketplaces, such as eBay, offer resellers the chance to check eBay suppliers’ testimonials and ratings. The only drawback is that competition is tough. If an eBay supplier is selling bead jewelry to you at discount of 14 percent, they are probably offering the same deal to 50 other dropship resellers. And all these resellers are selling these items on—you guessed it—eBay!
2. Wholesale List: A wholesale trading or dropship website that verifies trader contact details offers a safety net against the risks mentioned before. This list offers verified contact and ownership details of businesses. Because the lists contain many names in different niche areas, there is less competition among resellers.
The next time you need to find wholesale suppliers, go through directories that offer verified lists of suppliers.(read entire article)(posted on: 2011-02-03)
