Bangalore, regarded as the ideal gateway to India, is a paradise for tourists with architectural landmarks, natural lakes, gardens and parks. In the past few decades, Bangalore has also grown up into a centre of information technology. Earlier, Bangalore was known as the 'City of Gardens' since it has several gardens and parks. Bangalore was a peaceful city a couple of decades back and then it was called the 'Pensioner's Paradise'. Now the city is known as the 'Silicon Valley of India'. Bangalore is now the major exporters of information technology from India. Bangalore is an ideal place for employment-seekers, particularly in the field of information technology. The earlier name of the city was Bengaluru. According to legends, Hoysala king, Veer Ballala lost his way during his hunting in the forest. The hungry king was served boiled beans by an old woman. The happy king named the place Benda-kaal-Uru (Town of Boiled Beans). It later came to be known as Bengaluru. The Britishers named it Bangalore and now it has got its original name Bengaluru. Bangalore was founded by Kempegowda in 1537. Bangalore Palace and Tipu Sultan Palace are among the major attractions in the city. Chikkajala Fort is situated on Airport Road. Bangalore is known for some natural lakes like Hasaraghhatta, Hebbal and Ulsoor. In Ulsoor Lake, boating facility is available. Bangalore has large number of shrines. Among them are St. Mary's Church (oldest in Bangalore), Dargah Hazarath Tawakkal and Jumma Masjid. Among the temples are Bull Temple (built during 16th century) and Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple. There is an ISKCON temple in the city. The city is well connected by air, rail and road. The greatest advantage for Bangalore is its climate. It enjoys a pleasant weather all round the year. Taj Mahal in Agra is considered as the most visited tourist destination in India. It is also the most photographed monument in India. India is known as the land of Taj Mahal in the foreign countries. The foreigners consider that no trip to India is complete without a visit to the 17th century love monument. Being home to Taj Mahal, Agra is often known by the nickname 'Taj City'. Agra Fort and the nearby Fatehpur Sikri are the other tourist destinations in Agra district. All the three monuments - Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri - are in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra is one of the points of the tourist's Golden Triangle of Agra-Delhi-Jaipur. Built between 1631 and 1648 this mausoleum of white marble, situated on the banks of Yamuna River, was the symbol of love of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan towards his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. This beautiful tomb is one of the masterpieces of Indian Muslim architecture. Shah Jahan was also buried in Taj premises next to his beloved Begum. Taj Mahal is open to public from 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM daily, except on Friday. Agra Fort is similar in layout to Red Fort in Delhi. The fort was built by Emperor Akbar during the period from 1565 to 1571. The main monuments located within the Fort are Anguri Bagh Gardens, Diwan-i-Khas, Jahangir's Palace, Ladies' Bazaar, Moti Masjid, Nagina Masjid and Sheesh Mahal. Fatehpur Sikri, another 16th century monument, was also built under the orders of Emperor Akbar. Fatehpur Sikri, which means the 'City of Victory', includes Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, and temples. Fatehpur Sikri is situated about 38 km from Agra. Agra has some beautiful parks and gardens, including Mehtab Bagh. The back of the Taj Mahal is visible from this garden. Other parks and gardens in Agra included Soami Bagh, Shah Jahan Park and Dayal Bagh. Agra has two popular museums, Spiritual Museum and Taj Mahal Museum. Other attractions in Agra are Itmad-ud-Daula, Sikandra, Soor Sarovar, Diwan-i-Am, Buland Darwaza, Chini Ka Rauza and Tomb of Akbar. Itmad-ud-Daula Tomb is often referred to as 'Baby Taj', due to its similar architecture. Agra is well-connected by air, rail and road. The best time to visit Agra is during the winter months from September to March. Agra has large number of hotels which offer economical accommodation. Several types of Agra packages are available to travellers to visit various places within Agra and the nearby places. It also offers to book Resorts in Agra.
