Different Takes On Luxury: The 2014 Lincoln Mkz Vs. 2014 Cadillac Ats
Total Articles: 2
There’s a battle raging in the luxury auto market, and the 2014 Lincoln MKZ and 2014 Cadillac ATS are on the front lines of the fight. These two gorgeous automobiles are similar in a number of ways, but have some key differences that will prove vital in shifting consumers’ scales to one side or the other.
The Lincoln MKZ has an elegantly sleek look, with smooth curves and a swept split-wing grill that leads directly to the flowing lines on the hood. The retractable panoramic roof is great for sunny drives, and the vehicle also comes standard with full LED headlamps for sharp lighting with low power consumption.
The Cadillac ATS has a broader profile with deeply-set headlights and a stance that makes it look like it’s ready to pounce. It’s available with a choice of 17- or 18-inch painted or polished wheels, as well as optional vertical LED signature lamps.
The interior of the Lincoln MKZ reflects the smooth contours of the exterior, while the interior remains spacious and open-feeling. This feeling can be attributed to the lack of a shifter on the center console, which has been replaced with push-button shifting on the dashboard. The cabin is packed with additional features such as responsive seats that are both heated and cooled, soft materials, active noise control, a heated steering wheel, a THX II certified audio system, and much more.
The Cadillac ATS has a more traditional layout throughout the cabin. The interior’s themes are trimmed in exotic woods, carbon fiber, or aluminum. The seats come with leather surfaces, and are designed to hold the driver and passengers comfortably in place. Optional cold-weather packages with heated front seats and steering wheel are available, as well as a Bose audio system that is upgradeable to a ten-speaker surround sound system.
The Lincoln MKZ is available with a variety of performance options and includes the choice of three engines: the MKZ EcoBoost, the MKZ Hybrid, and the MKZ 3.7L V6. It also comes with front or all-wheel drive. While the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid engine is only available in front-wheel drive models, it gets an amazing estimated fuel economy of 45 city/45 highway mpg. The MKZ 3.7L V6 is the most powerful of bunch, boasting 300 horsepower and an estimated fuel economy of 19 city/28 highway mpg in front-wheel drive models. The MKZ EcoBoost engine puts out 240 horsepower, with an estimated fuel economy of 22 city/33 highway mpg in front-wheel drive models.
The Cadillac ATS is also available with three different engines from which consumers may choose, all of which are available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive models. The 2.0L Turbo engine puts out 272 horsepower with an estimated efficiency of 20 city/31 highway mpg. The 2.5L I4 engine is capable of 202 horsepower with an estimated 21 city/31 highway mpg, and the 3.6L V6 puts out 321 horsepower with an estimated 18 city/28 highway mpg.
The infotainment system found inside the MKZ is Lincoln’s SYNC system with MyLincoln Touch. The system consists of an eight-inch LCD touch screen that is fully customizable and packed with features, such as voice-command technology, Wi-Fi hotspot creation, and steering wheel-mounted controls. Even the driver’s instrument cluster is customizable using the infotainment system.
Other features of the 2014 Lincoln MKZ include active park assist and lane-keeping systems, as well as adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning, and push-button start with intelligent access. Lincoln’s Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert is also available, and uses radar technology to alert the driver when there is traffic in the vehicle’s blind spot or behind the vehicle during reverse.
The Cadillac ATS utilizes Cadillac User Experience (CUE) system as its infotainment console. The touchscreen system features voice recognition technology, and supports multi-touch gestures. CUE allows access to a variety of applications, and features a navigation system that includes 3-D maps and Doppler weather information. It can also synchronize with smartphones, tablets, and MP3 players.
The Cadillac ATS also features such ‘smart’ features as adaptive forward lighting and intelligent headlamps, which both work to improve the automation and effectiveness of the headlamps’ angles and the use of the high-beams. It also includes adaptive cruise control, which is capable of holding a safe distance from other cars even during stop-and-go traffic.
Overall, these two vehicles both offer a number of exciting and appealing features, with a wide variety of options and trims available for each. Ultimately, the 2014 Lincoln MKZ is likely to win over the hearts of consumers, as it not only offers more in the way of driver-assistance technology, but also provides consumers with an incredibly efficient hybrid model.
