Onions as a staple for most dishes to be prepared and for most meals is well known as an embellishment. However, the same as many sources say cannot be spoken off for pickled onions. For one to maintain a diet that is healthy and not fad types, it is important to consume the right amount of pickled onions. However, over consumption for the same can be harmful, since there is a lot of vinegar and salt involved, along with preservatives that are used while pickling happens. Onions also have plenty of sugars in them, so it is advised to consume small amounts and not to go overboard for the same.

Moderation is the key and that’s what many experts and dieticians say. Across many cultures and till date, the benefits of having onions are known and widespread. When eaten every day, health-wise people have shown a lot of improvement. However, in the case of pickled onions, the story is different. The health aspect takes a change altogether and that’s why dieticians would advise moderation when consuming pickled onions.

The markets online and otherwise are flooded with a range of such onions that are pickled. Hence, one should read reviews about the health factors and then decide which pickled package would be best to consume.

In pickled onions, the typical embellishments and condiments used are;

1. Apple cider vinegar, Balsamic vinegar, Malt or white vinegar

2. Seasonings for the pickling

3. Kosher, table or pickling salts

4. Sugar

5. Mustard seeds, coriander seeds, garlic and all spice for flavor and seasoning

Now your dietician or health advisor would best tell you which pickled onion would be best for your needs. The onions don’t lose their nutritional quotient, but it is safe only to have them in small amounts or else you could end up with more harm than good.

Pickled onions have vinegar which is acidic, and this can lead to stomach issues as well when consumed in large amounts. Hence, when onions for pickling are thought off, do so with due diligence and enjoy its tastes as well.
