Islam has always furthered the cause of the needy and they have the Zakat where the Muslims are encouraged to contribute a part of their earnings for the poor. Zakat has always been a major cause for the betterment of the poor people in the Islamic community because the wealth accumulated from it goes for their well being. The poor are provided with food and clothes and in the winters with blankets. There are lots of other ways in which the Islamic charities.

Islam also has the provision for “qurbani” and in big festivals like Id-ud-Zoha, the animals are first offered to God and then a portion of them is kept aside to be given to charity or directly to the poor. This is what makes Islam so special. The people do not just think about themselves, but also about other people so that the festivities are not just restricted to the handful of people who have the money. Rather, those who have everything share their belongings with those who have nothing.

... special events are organized and money is collected from the rich and the famous. They money is all gathered together and usually goes to trusts which again channel the amounts in various ways- they pay for the medical bills of the poor and help in establishing hospitals. Then they try to arrange for scholarships so that bright students can prepare for their future, even if they do not have the means. Women and the elderly are given special attention because they are the ones most neglected by their families.

So Islamic charities also do a great job and if anyone gets the opportunity to contribute for them, they should do so with generous hands and with an open heart.
