Liverpool and Arsenal have not had the best start to their respective campaigns this season gaining 4 and 3 points in two games respectively. The two big clubs are set to go head-to-head this Sunday at Liverpool’s home venue, Anfield. Arsenal have had their own set of difficulties at the venue – having not won there since 2013. However, both teams share a common weakness – a leaky defence. The Reds have conceded 3 goals in the last 2 games, whereas Arsenal have given away 4. Interestingly, another similarity both sides have is the contractual issues surrounding their best players i.e. Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez. While the likelihood of either of the two featuring for their clubs is unknown, both sides still possess plenty of fire power.

Key Players:

LIVERPOOL:

Sadio Mane, Midfielder

Continuing his impressive display last season, Sadio Mane ...
... has already scored two goals in the first two game-weeks. His consistency is something followers of fantasy football in India would like to bank on. The Senegalese midfielder was the Red’s best player last season, but he met with an injury during the latter part of the campaign. Rejuvenated and ready to go, the 25-year-old will be looking to breach Arsenal’s defence.

Mohammed Salah, Midfielder

The Egyptian midfielder made an instant impact in the League after signing from Italian side AS Roma earlier in the summer. The 25-year-old scored a crucial goal on his debut, thus ensuring that the Reds got a point in the 3-3 draw against Watford at Vicarage Road. The former Chelsea midfielder’s presence in the middle had made up for the absent Philippe Coutinho, and the Reds will hope that Salah can contribute in every game.

Roberto Firmino, Forward

Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino has cemented himself as Liverpool’s frontman following a splendid campaign last year. The 25-year-old has made influential performances for the Reds, most recently in the opening day fixture where he both netted a goal and made an important assist. With the uncertainty surrounding fellow strikers Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, Firmino is a guarantee to start the game against the Gunners this Sunday.

ARSENAL:

Alexandre Lacazette, Forward

The French forward enjoyed a dream debut for the Gunners, scoring in the second minute of the game against Leicester City. The £46 million signing was unlucky in the Stoke City game when he had his goal ruled out to be marginally offside. As many pundits have stated, Lacazette seems to have no difficulty in life in the League. With an intimidating fixture coming up against Liverpool, the Gunners will be counting on him to score some goals.

Olivier Giroud, Forward

Olivier Giroud has developed a penchant for bailing the Gunners out of trouble on more than one occasion. An example of this is when he came on as a substitute in the Leicester City game and scored the winner, thus creating an uproarious atmosphere at the Emirates. The 30-year-old stated that he was staying put at Arsenal following the arrival of compatriot Alexandre Lacazette. While the 30-year-old might have to embrace the role of a super sub, it will still allow him the opportunity to score many goals.

Aaron Ramsey, Midfielder

While the Welsh midfielder gets a lot of flak for being inconsistent, he still possesses the ability to provide quality balls through the middle and also make imposing runs in the box. Ramsey had a decent showing against Stoke City where he had multiple chances to make the score sheet. The 26-year-old will likely feature in the Liverpool match this weekend, and will hope to create an impact.

Although we are still in the early stages of the season, this battle will decide which of either sides has a stronger foot in the title race.
