Framingham Psychiatrist   By: novum psychiatry
Novum Psychiatry Combating stigma against mental health is a challenge for many. In the city of Framingham, many people do not seek regular therapy. Even with many people feeling better with counseling, the stigma over mental health continues to be a burden for Framingham locals. Data on health risks collected in 2016 by the Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System through telephone surveys revealed that around 3% of the adults in Framingham reported feeling depressed, sad, or blue for more than 15 days at a time. Moreover, about 6.5% reported having poor mental health, which was 0.5% more than what was reported throughout MetroWest. Statistics on Framingham adolescents showed that 23% felt sad and helpless, which was 6% more than what was reported in MetroWest, and 4% of the adolescents said they had attempted suicide. The level of mental health awareness in the area is very low, and the mental health facilities that do exist do not have enough professionals to staff them.(read entire article)

As Dick Moore, an English teacher with a passionate interest in adolescent development and emotional wellbeing, said, “everyone is vulnerable to mental health problems. The only thing weak about being vulnerable is not asking for help.” According to research, the number of people with mental health problems has not increased, but the way we live these days has made it much more difficult to cope. A survey carried out in 2016 revealed that 6% of the total population in Metro West reported having poor mental health.(read entire article)

Life can be a struggle when you have poor mental health. In extreme cases, even routine activities like sleeping through the night are a challenge. All of life's pressure can start to feel overwhelming to handle on your own, and your emotions can start to swing from one end to the other. A significant stigma has been attached to mental health problems throughout the years. Many of us could be facing challenges in our work-life balance to the extent that it is starting to affect our personal life and relationships. In Natick, 7.5% of the residents in adults reported poor mental health for 15 days at a time or more. In the MetroWest region, 6.2% of all adults reported poor mental health[1]. A focus group participant in a recent survey of mental health said: “The community needs an understanding of mental health issues and how to take care of themselves.” This clearly shows that there is a lack of awareness for mental health in Natick and the greater MetroWest area.(read entire article)
