It’s been fifty years since the Chevy Impala set sales records in the US. With more than one million cars sold back then, the new Impala is sure to set records with the updated version of this family sedan. The new 2013 has gotten rid of the commercial fleet image and now has more appeal. It has a great deal more room inside and the comfort factor is higher than ever before. The Impala LTZ V6 is just one example of how this top of the line car has accomplished great feats.

The 2014 Chevy Impala is all front-wheel-drive, which is great for driving in rain and snow. Sitting in the four-door sedan makes the driver feel they are driving a more expensive auto than the sticker price. This car has the same architecture of the upscale Buick LaCrosse, but a much lower price point. The Impala has many features that come with luxury cars, like heated seats, cross-traffic alert and a state-of-the-art infotainment system.

The cockpit of the Impala feels more upscale. Its cockpit rivals some of Toyota’s shiny interiors found in the 2014 Toyota Avalon, but at a fraction of the cost. There are lots of high tech goodies and ...
... the cockpit on the Impala is much more user friendly and nicer than that of the Avalon. Toyota does have a nice large central screen, but the Impala’s screen is larger and easier to use. It’s clear that Toyota was searching for the young buyers, because the ride of the Avalon doesn’t come close to the comfort in the Impala.

What sells many people on the 2014 Chevy Impala verses the Toyota Avalon is price. More families can afford the Impala, as it is priced well. The Chevy has a starting MSRP of $26,860 and the Avalon has a starting MSRP of $31,340. When people think of a Toyota family sedan, most think of the Camry and not the Avalon. However, the Avalon too is a family car, but it has additional luxury features that are not included in Camry’s line. The Avalon turns 20 this year, and they have had a good run. However, when comparing the Avalon to the Impala, it lacks some of the features Chevy made sure to include.

Both the Avalon and the Chevy have a similar wheel base and this makes the size of the cars very comparable. Though, the Chevy does seem to have a trunk that offers 18.8 cubic feet of trunk space, versus the Avalon’s has 16 cubic feet. The trunk area in the Chevy also has rear folding seats, which is great for hauling larger items. The Avalon’s seats do not fold.
When considering the engines, this is where it gets really interesting. The Avalon has a standard 268 horsepower engine with 248 pound-feet of torque, and the Impala has an amazing 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. The Toyota is a bit more fuel efficient, as it is lighter, but the Chevy is by no means a gas hog. The Avalon does come in a gas-electric hybrid version.

While they both are nice cars, the 2014 Chevy Impala should really be the next big sedan purchase. The Toyota gets good gas mileage and has a so-so ride, but the Chevy has a ride that is all about comfort. There are Lexus like luxuries in the Avalon, but still the luxuries in the Impala are comparable. For more information on the versatile 2014 Chevrolet Impala, visit your local Chevy dealership.
