Toyota Celica A Good Choice In Second Cars

Toyota Celica was first launched in 1970. The Japanese manufacturer has stopped its production but still it can prove to be a nice second hand car with a style. The latest generation is the seventh generation and has sleek looks with an aggressive shape that separates it from other hatchbacks like Citroen Xsara and Vauxhall Astra. The Celica is not just the looks it is great to drive as well with low driving position giving a sporty feel and the light controls returning an easy drive in the city. On the motorway the responsive steering ensures a sharp handling. The only drawback is the limited space for the rear passengers making it uncomfortable for the long journeys. However the front boasts acres of space.

Toyota introduced many special editions of the Celica therefore going for one is more than a choice of colour. In 2000, a more powerful 190bhp engine was added to the range and some extras were added to the interior, but all of these aren’t worth the extra because the difference in pulling power from 140bhp is very little and the looks are the same. The 190bhp ...
... engine needs to be revved to the peak to get the best out of it. The 140bhp engine is as fast in the real world and looks the same and the standard kit is reasonable that includes air conditioner, Antilock Braking System, alloys and electric front windows. If you really want some extras, you can find a Celica with optional Premium Pack that gives climate control and leather interior.

Toyota Celica is not a comfortable car to travel for the passengers at rear as the leg room is cramped and the headroom is restricted as well due to the sloppy design. The back is tricky to access however it can easily accommodate couple of kids. Having said that, the front seats are much more comfier for long journeys. The boot space is huge for a coupe and can be increased by split folding the rear seats making the Celica a practical car. The interior has some cubby bins and cup holders for holding bits and bobs. The buying cost of the Toyota Celica is more than the rivalling Honda Prelude, Hyundai and Alfa all of these will have regular trips to the garage, while the Celica is more reliable than all keeping the running costs low. However if things do go wrong with Celica it will be expensive to get fixed but still cheaper than a GTV or Prelude. The 140bhp gives the fuel economy of 36.7mpg and the 190bhp returns 33.6mpg on the combined cycle much better than the GTV and Ford Cougar.
