Affordable 2-day Tanzania Safari: Tarangire & Ngorongoro Crater
Embarking on a safari in Tanzania is a dream come true for many travelers, and with Avocet Tanzania Trekking, your journey is designed to be both affordable and unforgettable. Our 2-Day Group Joining & Camping Safari offers the perfect balance of adventure, exploration, and authentic African wilderness. In just two days, you’ll experience two of Tanzania’s most iconic destinations—Tarangire National Park and the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater.
Ideal for travelers with limited time, this short yet immersive safari ensures maximum wildlife encounters. From the towering baobab trees and large elephant herds of Tarangire to the breathtaking landscapes and Big Five sightings in Ngorongoro, every moment of this journey is filled with wonder. To complete the experience, you’ll spend the night at Kizumba Campsite, set near Lake Manyara, famous for its flocks of pink flamingos and scenic views.
Avocet Tanzania Trekking is also renowned for guiding climbers along the legendary Kilimanjaro routes—including ...
... the Machame, Marangu, Lemosho, and Rongai trails. Many travelers choose to combine a Kilimanjaro climb with a short safari like this one, making it the perfect adventure blend of mountain and wildlife.
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park Safari
Your adventure begins in Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. After a warm welcome from your professional driver-guide, you’ll join your group and board a 4×4 safari cruiser equipped with open roofs, wide windows, a charging system, and a radio for the ultimate safari experience.
The drive to Tarangire National Park takes around two hours. As you enter the park, the scenery shifts into a remarkable landscape of rolling savannahs and giant baobab trees. Tarangire covers an impressive 3,000 square kilometers and is famed for its massive elephant population—over 2,000 elephants roam freely here, often seen in family herds.
A thrilling game drive awaits, where you’ll encounter diverse wildlife including wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, and giraffes, all drawn to the Tarangire River—the park’s main water source. Predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs lurk nearby, creating incredible photo opportunities. Tarangire is also home to more than 500 bird species, from the colorful lilac-breasted roller to the towering ostrich, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, surrounded by breathtaking wilderness. By late afternoon, around 4:30 PM, you’ll depart Tarangire and head towards the Manyara Rift Valley. Upon arrival at Kizumba Campsite, a delicious dinner awaits, followed by a relaxing night under the African stars.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Exploration
Wake up early to the cool air of Lake Manyara and enjoy breakfast at camp before heading to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Known as the eighth wonder of the natural world, the crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera on Earth, spanning 19 kilometers across and plunging 600 meters deep. Formed millions of years ago by a massive volcanic eruption, it now shelters an extraordinary ecosystem.
Descending into the crater is like entering another world. You’ll encounter lush grasslands, acacia forests, and swamps teeming with hippos. This natural amphitheater is home to more than 30,000 animals, making it one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. Here, you’ll have the chance to spot all of the Big Five—elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and the rare black rhino.
A picnic lunch will be served at a designated site within the crater, where you can enjoy your meal while gazing across the dramatic landscapes. Maasai herders can sometimes be seen guiding their cattle along the rim, adding a cultural dimension to the wildlife spectacle.
In the late afternoon, you’ll ascend from the crater and return to Arusha, marking the end of your 2-Day Tanzania Camping Safari.
