A. The principal objective of the speech is to convey the message that breakfast is the most important meal of the day which improves our mental and physical health considerably. Without a doubt, eating breakfast regularly helps to activate metabolism, improves brain activity, concentration and promotes good mood. Breakfast provides strength for the whole day, that is why skipping it causes many health problems.
B. The intended audience of this speech is probably young people. The speaker emphasizes that younger people are more likely to skip breakfast.
Besides, he provides statistics that people between the ages of 18 and 34 skip breakfast every morning (00:00:37-00:00:47). Moreover, when addressing the audience, he says that starting the day without breakfast is like going to school in the car without having any gas in it (00:00:54-00:01:01). The speaker mentions school, so the audience is probably young people.
C. The speaker states that breakfast is the most beneficial meal of the day and provides major arguments to prove it. Firstly, breakfast provides energy for the whole day. Secondly, without breakfast, the body goes into starvation mode and triggers gaining weight (00:02:46-00:02:54). Thirdly, eating breakfast helps to decrease risk of many health problems and even reduce the overall risk of early death. The last but not least, the author pays attention to the importance of the products people eat in the morning.
D. Ethos is used to convince the audience of the credibility of the speaker. However, in the speech, the speaker does not utilize it much to motivate the audience by his trustworthiness and credibility. He does not provide many examples from his life or personal experience that would make people believe in his arguments. At the beginning of the speech, he promises to convince people that his words are true: In this speech, I would like to try my best to convince you to spend time eating a healthy breakfast every morning. (00:01:02-00:01:12). Apart from that, he does not succeed in building credibility with his audience.
E. The speaker uses pathos in the speech to connect emotionally with the listeners. The author advises listeners to eat breakfast despite any circumstances: You must try your best to grab something for breakfast (00:01:14-00:01:22). He expresses his good intentions to help the audience to be healthier. Moreover, he adds a little humor at the end of the speech that leaves a pleasant aftertaste and motivates to prepare a healthy omelet: Start tomorrow and do not wait to have an egg-cellent day. (00:05:45-00:06:03). The speaker uses a lot of emotionally charged words, metaphors, and personification to evoke the emotions in the audience and create a desired effect of the speech.
F. The speaker uses logos in his speech to persuade an audience by giving reasons, facts, and statistics. For example: When you have dinner at 7 pm, then you skip breakfast, and as a result you spend nearly 17 hours without eating anything which slows your metabolism (00:02:36-00:02:42). He emphasizes the importance of breakfast for the audience and provides many figures to show how skipping breakfast affects human health. Doing one simple thing every morning, you can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, and obesity.(00:00:05-00:00:19) The speaker provides the whole range of benefits of eating breakfast to show its importance for well-being. He uses logic stating that eating breakfast is necessary because it considerably improves health. The speaker expresses his thoughts logically, provides consequent arguments and supports them with reliable facts and statistics to persuade the audience in the trustworthiness of his words.
G. The strengths in the arguments are the facts, statistics, and reports the speaker provides to support his words. They give the speech more power and help to realize the importance of breakfast. Particularly, the fact about the starvation mode and obesity. Moreover, he provides reliable information from credible sources and that has its impact too, because they are not just common facts. He uses strong and specific evidence and provides many examples to show the influence of skipping breakfast on the mental and physical health of a human.
H. There are not many weaknesses in the speakers arguments. Nevertheless, he states that almost any fruit is a great breakfast food (00:04:24-00:04:26). However, it is not always useful for everybody. Especially citrus fruits which increase acid are not good for people who have stomach problems. The speaker should have mentioned more facts to support this argument. However, on the whole, the arguments are mostly strong and are supported by reliable information that makes the speech very convincing.
I. As for me, it was very persuasive because the author provided a lot of facts and examples to prove the importance of eating breakfast. He used comparison and exaggeration providing a great effect and making the speech stronger and more trustworthy. Without a doubt, I discovered significant facts about the importance of eating breakfast and it, along with the combination of examples and statistics, had a great impact on me.
J. The speaker uses a tone and volume in his speech to provide a better effect on the audience. For example, at the beginning of the speech he stresses words one, every, and the names of diseases in the sentence: Doing one simple thing every morning, you can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, and obesity. (00:00:05-00:00:09). He emphasizes those words for the audience to pay their attention to them and understand the connection between those words. He changes the tone of the question Would you be interested in doing it?(00:00:17-00:00:19). By this, he tries to catch the attention of the people and encourage them to answer it. During the whole speech, the speaker changes the sound of his voice and emphasizes the numbers to make the audience remember and analyze them. He uses the vocal variety to make the audience listen actively, be interested in the speech and understand its purpose. There is one drawback the low quality of sound during the whole speech and it is very hard to understand the speaker clearly. However, he tries to keep the audience engaged and transfer to them all the meanings of his words, make an emphasis where necessary and express his feelings about the spoken subject with the help of his voice.
