How To Treat Asthma With Natural And Ayurvedic Medicines

Asthma is a chronic airway condition characterized by wheezing, breathing difficulties, tightness in the chest and also associated with cough. An increase in pollution and toxins that triggers in the environment leads to this condition. It may be characterized as primary and secondary factors responsible for asthma.

In Ayurveda, asthma is correlated as "swasha roga", that causes difficulty in breathing, and shortness of breath. Swasha roga is mainly caused by vata and kapha dosha. Asthma is broadly characterized in five types-mahaswasha, chinnaswasha, urdhwaswasha, chudraswasha, tamak swasha.

Causes of Asthma -

Asthma is caused mainly by Vata and Kapha doshas. Excessive intake of cold and kapha aggravating food products and cold climate leads to Asthma [swasha roga]. Kapha causes narrowing of airways and thus causing respiratory obstructions, difficulty in breathing. Environment and lifestyle factors also plays role in causing
Sign and symptoms of Asthma –

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airway, leading to shortness of breath, recurrent wheezing episodes, tightness in the chest, cough specifically during the night and early morning time. Chocking of throat and dryness  in the mouth and feeling of helplessness also associated. Sputum may be produced from lungs which may cause coughing mainly during the night timings.                          
Ayurvedic Treatment For Asthma -

Polyherbal drugs are accepted for treating Asthma, swasha roga. As asthma is mainly caused by vata and kapha doshas so these herbal drugs work to balance these doshas and cure swasha roga. Chandigarh Ayurveda Center provides complete treatment for Asthma which includes a complete pack of Herbal drugs known as ‘ASTHMA GO KIT’ without any side effects. This kit contains five products - Kaphaketu rasa, Anu tailam, Kuka fighter syrup, Kasa swash hari rasa, Asthma care powder.


1.Kaphaketu rasa-
Kaphaketu rasa is an ayurvedic remedy containing Suddha Tankana, Suddha Vatsnabh, Shankha bhasma, etc. which balances all the three doshas (vata, pitta, kapha). These tablets are used in the treatment of asthma, rhinitis, bronchitis, cold, cough, eyes, and throat problems.              
Recommended dosage- Take 2 tablets twice a day with normal water.
2.Anu tailam-
Anu tailam is an Ayurvedic and herbal oil used for curing various diseases through Nasal instillation. To protect, lubricate and calm the mind administered through nasal passage. Anu tailam contains –solanum root, cardamom fruit, cinnamomum stem bark, sesame oil, bael tree root, holostemma  tuber, etc. Anu tailam is beneficial in eyes, brain, head, face, and nose as it mainly balances the kapha
dosha. Anu tailam is generally recommended in sinusitis, chronic headache, problem of migraine, improves the vocal cord, and voice. Anu tailam gives effective results to the Asthmatic patients.
Recommended dosage- Put 2-3drops of anu tailam in each nostril.
3.Kuka fighter syrup-
Kuka fighter syrup is an Ayurvedic medicine, mainly consisting of ingredients Yashtimadhu [Glycyrrhiza glabra],Tulsi[Ocimum sanctum], Kulanjan[Alpinia glanza], Vasa [Adhatoda vasica], etc. This herbal syrup mainly used in asthma, cold, cough, and other respiratory tract disorders. It is highly beneficial in improving the digestive system and anorexia. Kuka fighter syrup works as a bronchodilator and thus prevents asthmatic attacks.
Recommended dosage-Take 2 teaspoonful twice a day.

4.Cough powder-
Cough powder consisting of herbal ingredients mainly used for asthmatic treatment. This powder mainly balances the vata and kapha doshas. The herbal sachets contain ingredients – like laxmi vilas rasa, abhrak bhasma, sitopladi churna, godanti bhasma, etc that are mainly used in whooping cough, chronic cough, cold, etc. It also provides relief from sore throat and congestion of chest.
The mucus accumulated in the chest loosens by these ingredients thus making the mucus remove out from body.
Recommended dosage- Take 1 sachet twice a day with honey.

5.Kasa swasha hari rasa-
Kasa swasha hari rasa is an excellent medicine for asthma patients. It balances the excessive kapha dosha in the body. These tablets consist of ingredients like laxmivilas nardiya rasa, swasa kasa chintamani rasa, talisadi churna, sutshekhar rasa processed in bhawna vasa kwath. The tablets have the best result in asthma,
recurrent cough, cold, and sinusitis. It is very effective in vikar of prana vaha srotas developed due to low immunity and provides effective results in asthmatic patients.                
Recommended dosage-Take 1 tablet twice a day with normal water.

Healthy tips for asthma patients:

Here are some of the healthy tips and that will help asthma patients to manage the symptoms:

1) Avoid tobacco, wine, smoking, cold and damp places, and overeating.
2) Go for the evening and morning walk for 30 minutes avoiding excessive
3) Keep rooms well ventilated avoiding the perfumes, mosquito repellants, incense
sticks, dust, etc.
4) Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
5) Eat foods  with omega 3 fatty acids.
6) Honey used to soothes irritated throat and calm cough. Three necessary components of overall fitness -strength, flexibility, and capacity of lungs improve
by yoga. Postures recommended for Asthmatic patients are dhanurasana, sirsasana, bhujangasana, suptavajrasna, so practice these regularly at home.
