Take A Look At These Hardwood Flooring Installation Trends
Sure, hardwood can cost a fortune depending on the timber and needs a lot of maintenance. But that has not stopped people from buying hardwood flooring in Denver, CO. Despite the high maintenance, hardwood planks are simply classical and timeless. Wood comes in many colors that tint the interior when light is reflected upon it. The grain on their surface creates different textures. Hardwood adds a layer of warmth to the home by sight and by touch. And if you thought that there isn’t much that you can do with hardwood floors, you couldn’t be further from the truth. There is no limit to the creative liberty you can take with these sturdy planks, except the physical limitations of course. Here are some hardwood floor patterns and installation methods that are trending:
White Oak Hardwood Flooring
Once upon a time, oak hardwood flooring in Denver, CO was synonymous with red. The reason behind this is that red oak is more abundant in the continent than white oak. But this year, people are snubbing the classic red for the smooth white planks. Unlike the grainy red oak, white oak has smooth grains that form linear patterns. This graining gives the floors a smooth contemporary look suitable for modern houses. This timber is available in whitewash and many shades of grey that are quite popular these days. Another reason to choose white over red oak is that the former is more water-resistant than the latter.
White French Oak Flooring
You guessed it! It’s the French species of white oak. Unlike the American variety, this tree is used in winemaking due to the high levels of tannins. With time, the tannins react with the elements in the air and turn brownish. This gives the wooden planks a naturally worn outlook.
Bigger is better rings true in this case. Wider planks make the floors seem wider as well, making the room seem bigger than it is. Interestingly, wide planks have different effects on different architectures. When installed in old buildings, wide panels make the home feel more rustic and authentic. When installed in new constructions, the planks make them look more modern. Unless you are matching the planks to fit your floor, you shouldn't settle for anything narrower than 3¼”.
Mixed Width Planks
You might have some trouble fitting wide planks to your floor. Installers need to modify the planks, especially the ones at the edges to fit them perfectly. This adds up to your installation bill. To prevent this, many people go ahead with planks of uneven width. Ironically, it is popular for the same reason it wasn’t in the past; uneven width makes it seem natural. After all, nature is all about variety in shapes and sizes. They are also easier to fit than wide uniform planks. This style is picking pace in 2019 and will undoubtedly be popular in 2020.
You may have noticed some imperfections in your neighbor’s hardwood floor, like mismatched colors. This problem is very common in factory finished floor planks. Drips, streaks and stripes of wood stain are commonly left behind during the refinishing process at the factory. The solution to this problem is rather simple; on-site pre-finishing. As the name suggests, the planks are finished at your home before installation. This gives the floor a neat and even look. If you’re bored with brown, you can customize the finishing to give your floor a different color. This method is particularly suitable for engineered hardwood.
Eco-Friendly Seal & Polish
Hardwood floors need to be polished every six months or so because they lose sheen due to sunlight and wear. But commercial floor polishes contain harmful chemicals. Natural oils from sunflower, hemp, soy, etc. are some good eco-friendly alternatives. When combined with resin or beeswax, they give a dull finish that lasts much longer. This solution doesn’t spoil the wood’s color and texture. Resealing wood tiles is also important to protect it from moisture. Polyurethane is an organic compound used for its eco-friendly effects.
