With Data Analytics being simply everywhere, with its applications being present on anything from a bathroom faucet to an aircraft, it is tempting to see where this gigantic industry is headed. That the Data Analytics area is set for an unprecedented growth in the coming years is a given and not something that is debatable. If anything is debatable about Data Analytics, it should only be about what it will look like and what form and shape it will take at a determined point of time in the future.

However, like all other industries and activities, no prediction can be indisputable. That is why it is called a forecast and not a certainty. It can have its own fluxes and fluidities, but from the given facts, let us try to make a few forecasts about the Top 10 Data Analytics Trends that will dominate in 2020, hoping that our perception and clairvoyance will triumph!

So, here we go:

Smart manufacturing: Manufacturing seems to be the least likely candidate to be affected by the rise of Data Analytics. Surprising as it many sound, this is set to be among the topmost trends that will dominate Data Analytics in 2020. The rationale for this thinking: the emergence of 5G from a host of global giants and with it, the expected spurt in 3D printing. Manufacturing is set to undergo disruptions on a scale that is difficult to prognosticate with precision.

Personal digital assistance: What we saw from Alexa was the tip of the iceberg. Like so many other present-day technologies, each can be extended to do something beyond its original purpose. Data scientists are already considering how the technology used in Alexa could be expanded to make personal care more extensive and affordable. How about using this technology for aiding aged people or children? The possibilities look very, very big.

Continuous Intelligence: So, is Continuous Intelligence yet another highfalutin industry jargon? Far from it. It is an area of design in which Data Analytics is inserted into a business activity to gather continuous information and uses real time contextual data to foster decision-making. Best of all, it automates decisions based on these parameters.

Giant leap in investments in Data Analytics: Let us face it. Whether companies like to admit it or not, there is gainsaying the fact that companies that fail to invest on Data Analytics will be unable to catch up with those that do. Data Analytics will be increasingly used to channelize and tap massive amounts of data that will otherwise go down the drain.

In-memory computing: This is seen as a smart alternative to the diminishing power of computers to store memory. In-memory computing is a new layer that is placed between dynamic RAM and NAND flash memory, increasing memory phenomenally.

Connected transport: Closely aligned to smart cities, of whom they are set to become an integral part, we will have Data Analytics connecting transportation systems and networks in a more connected and coordinated manner, thus enhancing the efficiency of public and private transport, with their higher level of interaction. Uber, Tesla, Qualcomm, NVidia, Amazon and like are investing on this scenario to make shared taxis/hailing services the most viable form of transport for the future.

Augmented Analysis: Augmented Analysis is set to be a prominent one among the Top 10 Data Analytics Trends in 2020. Augmented Analysis uses a combination of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to give a much more perceptive understanding of the way in which data is generated, used and shared.

Automation of ERM: Enterprises better watch out, for they are in for a heavy dose of automation. All but five percent of all video and image content in enterprises is expected to be automated, pushing up the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) market to close to $60 billion in 2020.

The rise of XaaS: Why simply SaaS and DaaS, and why not XaaS, simply anything as a service? Looks stupid? Maybe not!

Regulations are set to increase: An often overlooked, but critical fact is that all advances in technologies need regulating! We could see greater oversight and enforcement of technologies through instruments such as The General Data Protection Regulation, the newer California Consumer Privacy Act, and many more set to follow.
