When you are in a car with your friend you need to be a good passenger. We understand that it often becomes difficult to do so but keeping the security measures in mind, you need to do so. As a passenger we too have a duty towards ensuring safety and security when your friend is driving the car. If you are unable to understand what we are talking about or hinting at, let us break it down and explain it to you in simple terms. Say for example, you have asked your friend to pick you up from office and drop you home. When you are in the car, there are certain etiquettes that you need to follow. What are they? And why are they important.

For starters, the moment you sit inside the car, you should wear the seatbelt. The belt is not only for the person driving the car but also for the passenger. Each car seat comes with a safety belt. You need to wear it before the car starts. This way you are ensuring your safety and the car’s safety. Everyone should do this.

Just because you are not driving the car and you don’t have to concentrate on the road traffic does not mean that you will put on the car music at full blast. There are two reasons for it. Listening to music on full blast is not good for your eardrum. And secondly when the music is high your friend who is driving the car might not hear the horn from the other cars. The music tends to distract him from paying full attention to the road and what lies ahead. This in turn increases the chances of accident on road.

We are not telling you not to talk with your friend when he is driving the car. But don’t get him embroiled in a fight or a heated discussion. When one get’s angry he loses control over his emotions and his mind is somewhere else. As such there are chances that he will put more pressure on the accelerator or will suddenly push the brakes. In his anger he might break the traffic signal and can ram into another car coming from the other direction. This will put everyone’s life at risk.

If you are browsing through your phone and see something interesting that you would like your friend, wait for him to park the car. Or you can show him when the car is waiting for the signal to turn green. There is no need to show him when he is driving. In order to check out what you are showing, he needs to avert his eyes from the road to the screen. This spilt second of activity can prove to be dangerous.

And finally, you should encourage your friend to follow the instructions of the driving instructors Marrickville so that he drives safe. Keep all these things in mind the next time you ask your friend to drop you.
