On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron held long-awaited meeting during which they have reviewed the entire scope of multi-faced and dynamic relationship to further enhance the strategic partnership.

Ahead of the meeting, the Indian Prime Minister has said that the talks will add to ground covered during previous interaction with President Macron.

Both of them held “more than 90-minute long one-on-one meeting reviewing the entire gamut of our dynamic & multifaceted relationship,” said the External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar.

Mr. Kumar said, “Our strategic partnership is a very important pillar of our foreign policy.”

The one-on-one interaction of the top leaders will be followed by the delegation-level talks.

In the departure statement, PM Modi has said that his visit to France is reflecting the strong strategic partnership that the two nations deeply value and shares.

He continued, “India and France have excellent bilateral ties, which are reinforced by a shared vision to cooperate for further enhancing peace and prosperity for our two countries and the world at large.”

PM Modi further said that strong economic and strategic partnership is complemented by a shared perspective on major global concern, including climate change and terrorism.

“I am confident that this visit will further promote our long-standing and valued friendship with France for mutual prosperity, peace and progress,” added PM Modi.

Ahead of the meet at Chateau de Chantilly, which is one of the finest jewels of its cultural heritage, situated around 50 Km North of Paris, President Macron has explained the historic importance of the Chateau to PM Modi and took him around the ancient building.

Earlier, the Indian Prime Minister was offered a red carpet welcome at the airport, where he was greeted by Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Soon after his arrival, PM Modi tweets: “India and France enjoy extremely friendly ties and have been working together bilaterally and multilaterally for years.”

During his two-day visit, the Indian Prime Minister will hold meeting with French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, and will also interact with the Indian community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate a memorial to the Indian victims of the two Air India crashes in France in the 1950s and 1960s.
