The way you talk to your children and discipline them has a direct impact on their development, both congenially and socially. As kids spend most of their time with their parents, the way they interact or behave in top CBSE schools in Bangalore and elsewhere is an immediate reflection of their upbringing. This is why you need to understand and ensure your style is supporting healthy growth. Keep reading to learn about the different parenting styles and their effects.

1. Authoritarian

As the name suggests, this style is where parents demand total cooperation from their children and have no tolerance for questions or breaking the rules. Authoritarian parents are known for saying, "Because I said so" when a child questions the reasons behind a rule. For these parents, punishment is the golden rule for disciplining their kids.

How it affects the child?

This style of parenting can help you get your kids to do what you want, when and how. However, it can hamper your child's ability to develop self-esteem and communicate without hesitating. Also, children who grow up with this style can become aggressive and authoritarian themselves.

2. Authoritative

In this style, children are encouraged to be independent and speak their mind but within limits. Parents who practise this style increase levels of independence as kids mature. They also use discipline strategies to reinforce good behaviour, like praise and reward systems.

How it affects the child?

This style encourages children to form their own opinions and make decisions. Children with authoritative parents can communicate and are comfortable while talking to others. This style is adopted by top schools in Bangalore to positively help students grow up while understanding what is right and wrong.

3. Permissive

Also known as lenient parenting, in this style, parents adopt an attitude of "kids will be kids." Here, parents are more like friends to their children. Permissive parents urge children to talk about their feelings and problems and discourage the punishment or consequences style.

How it affects the child?

Kids who grow up with permissive parents have higher self-esteem, better social skills and lower levels of depression, which aids in positive social development. However, due to this style, children tend to have less self-control and are less disciplined.

4. Uninvolved

The name is enough to describe this style. Here, parents and kids, both, have little to no knowledge about each other. These parents expect kids to learn on their own and seldom set rules. This type of parenting is never intentional, but it is automatically adopted when parents are busy with work or personal problems.

How it affects the child?

Kids with neglectful parents tend to rank low on happiness since they do not know what it feels like to be appreciated or scolded. Also, children can be awkward in social situations and shy away from any attention.

These are the most common styles of parenting. Remember, every parent is different and can have a method which is a combination of all of these or none. This does not mean it is incorrect. All you need to understand that is the way you raise a child affects his experience while studying in one of the best CBSE schools in Bangalore and in the future. Considering you want the best for your child, reconsider your actions and words to maintain a healthy relationship.
