3 Essential Cement Mixer Features You Should Consider Before Buying One
The rise of megacities and awe-inspiring infrastructures continues to astonish us. Our homes are now built tougher and better. And we owe all of this to the cement mixer. The infrastructure of contemporary civilization advanced thanks to this humble yet essential construction equipment.
Gone are the times when you have to mix sand, water, gravel and cement by hand. A time-consuming and very exhausting process. And of course the backache you're gonna get!
Doesn't matter if you're an expert building professional or a keen DIY-er. You can rest easy knowing there's a right cement mixer for your grafting and construction needs. Here are 3 easy tips that can help you decide on the perfect unit.
1. Electric or gas-powered
An electric cement mixer is an excellent choice for people who are on a small budget and do not require a lot of cement. It's suitable for small to medium-sized construction jobs. You can even use it indoors. Start-up is instantaneous no matter what the weather condition is. It's that easy! Plus it requires less upkeep. On top of that, they are extremely maneuverable and easy to move around.
But it does have its downsides. You need to have an electrical supply at all times for this particular mixer type to operate. Plus, it produces far less cement quantity. This makes it incompatible with large construction jobs. Additionally, its smaller size and horsepower means it can't be subjected to long, intensive use.
A gas-powered mixer is your go-to mixer if you want a reliable workhorse to make voluminous amounts of concrete. Thus, it does well in outdoor work and big construction projects. One of its great selling points is its autonomy. Since it runs on an engine, it is possible to run it even in areas with no power. This makes it very handy to use.
On the downside, a gas-powered mixer's great weight and size make it troublesome to move around. Running on an engine means it requires more maintenance and upkeep. It also creates more pollution and noise. And it is more expensive than electric mixers.
Factor in all of your construction requirements. Know your project's budget, size and concrete volume needs. This can help you find out which cement mixer type is the ideal match for you.
2. Mobile or stationary
Go for a portable mixer if you need to pour cement over long areas like pathways and roads. Its compact size and lightness will make it much easier for you to move around multiple job sites. But since it produces lesser volumes of concrete, you're going to have to mix more often.
A stationary mixer will supply you with greater volumes of concrete. That means you don't have to constantly mix new batches. The downside is you can't carry it around, unlike the portable type. Better to go with this one for large projects located on just one site.
3. Drum Capacity
It follows that the larger the drum capacity, the more volume of cement you'll be able to mix. But here's an interesting fact. The mixing volume should be slightly less than the total drum quantity. So if your drum capacity is 150L, you can just mix 120L per batch. This is to avoid overfilling the drum which affects the homogeneity of the mixture. Deciding on the right drum capacity depends on the number of batches of cement you wish to make at a specified time.
You must now have a clearer idea about exactly what cement mixer is ideal for you and your work. The good news is you can now purchase a unit via the internet. Many reputable brands and traders are now selling their equipment online. Have a look at their webpages. See if you can find the ideal cement mixer for your construction projects.
