A Guide To Fitness Centers In Shenzhen
The population of the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen has exploded in the past three decades to over 11 million inhabitants. It has become a global hub for cutting edge technology and attracted a large number of those in the industry to work and live in the city.
Many from not only around China but the globe have found their way to Shenzhen through excellent employment opportunities. Quite modern by Chinese standards, Shenzhen has infrastructure rivalling the most efficient cities around the world. A continuously expanding MTR network of 8 lines connects once fragmented pockets of the metropolis making getting around simple and affordable.
Whether living in Shenzhen or in the city for work or travel, it is reassuring to know that all personal fitness needs can be met. Stand-alone gyms and yoga studios are becoming more popular while hotels continue to offer memberships to their fitness centers to the general public. Below is an outline of high quality gyms in different districts of the sprawling city.

Members have access to yoga and spinning classes, sauna, all of the standard exercise machines, and even a boxing ring. While the indoor pool is nice, the outdoor pool is an incredible way to spend an afternoon in the sun, peering out onto the city below. Open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Its 10th floor pool with a high ceiling, murals, and windows supplying plenty of natural light and give it a European spa-like feel. The fully equipped gym is open 24/7 and both members and hotel guests can enjoy yoga classes and table tennis. The outdoor terrace connected to the gym is available to all and offers unique BBQ promotions.
Yoga is still a little off the radar in China. That being said, Yogalife in Shekou is a dedicated studio with first rate facilities and instructors on par with any major city in Europe or North America.
With 40 classes a week in both English and Mandarin, Yogalife often invited teachers from around the continent for seminars and special sessions. Mats, blocks, and yoga gear is all available for purchase here, too.
Invincible (Shekou, Futian, Hi-Tech Park)
One of the first of its kind in Shenzhen, Invincible is a combat gym with specialized training in Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Founded by professional combat fighter Woody Poiter, a team of experts run both beginner and advanced sessions. Shenzhen is a growing city and certainly makes up for what it lacks in other areas. Yoga and fitness are quickly catching up as more people prioritize a healthy work life balance with an adequate physical regiment. The vibrant city has a lot to offer in terms of livability and as a destination for tourism throughout the continent. Make sure to stay fit this summer one of the city’s premier fitness institutions.
