Many of you must have heard of the term counselling and counselors. What is this counselling? Why are people so afraid to say that they have visited the counsellor? What is the taboo? Well, for starters, mental health has always been a subject of question and debate. It has always be related to mental illness, which in other words means when a person has gone mad and become crazy. These individuals are sent to the rehabilitation center for treatment. As a result, whenever one says that he or she is suffering from mental illness, others automatically assume that the person has become mad and start avoiding them. In order to be not shunned and looked down upon, people hesitate and are not comfortable talking about mental illness. But the truth remains that mental illness is much more than this. It involves feeling sad, lonely and even depressed. All these can be termed as mental illness. However, the lack of awareness and the habit of degrading others have failed to clear the air surrounding mental illness.
