Imagine this scene in your mind: Snow is falling down hard outside. Luckily, you're warm and cozy in your living room thanks to the crackling fireplace. You're reclining on a soft sofa with a cup of hot cocoa in your hands.
It is a traditional winter scene in which I am positive that you would want to experience. However, before you put yourself in that picture, there are a number of preparations that you will need to take.
First, You need to have enough firewood to last through the winter season. Save yourself the hassle of preparing and cutting woods. So why not invest in a wood splitter? It will give you more kindlings for your fireplace in a shorter amount of time. The more firewood you have, the longer you can keep yourself snug and warm at your home in the wintertime.
Thinking of getting your own wood splitter? Here are some of the things to consider to find you the best wood splitter for you.
1. Residential and commercial types
The only difference between the two types is the amount of tonnage force that they exert.
Residential types have lesser power production than commercial types as these are intended for simple jobs like chopping up firewood in the winter. Now if you need a tonnage force above 10 tons, you'll have to go with one of the commercial type wood splitters as these can exert 25 tons on average. More power means more firewood in a shorter amount of time. If you're running a logging/kindling business,  these will make excellent investments. Another great reason to go for a commercial wood splitter is if you live in a region that experiences heavy snowfall throughout the year.
In addition to power production, wood species and diameter are also critical factors to examine when identifying the best wood splitter to use. Residential types are fantastic for splitting small logs of six to twelve-inch diameter, but you'll be needing a commercial type to split open 12 to 24-inch diameter tree trunks.
2. Electric or gas
Electric wood splitters are suited to smaller varieties of timber. They are cheaper and easier to maintain than their gas counterparts. They can work on household electricity, allowing you to work in the comfort of your own garage or yard. However, they don't work well when cutting logs with a lot of branching junctions since they require more force to process.
Nothing beats gas wood splitters in terms of heavy-duty performance and power generation! They create the tonnage force needed to cleave even the toughest of hardwoods such as cherry, elm and oak. Additionally, they can also cut woods which are still a bit green.
That said, gas wood splitters also come with many shortcomings. They require more maintenance because they operate on engines. Be prepared to do regular gas refilling, oil changing and cord yanking. Then there are the fumes and the noise that they create, so these aren't suitable for residential areas. And price-wise, they're among the most expensive types of wood splitters.
Now you have a general overview of how to select the wood splitter. Use these recommendations to examine your needs and help you decide which type is the best match for you. Choose concerning price, the species of wood you're going to be cutting and where you are going to split logs. As soon as you've chosen the type that's most suitable for your needs, you can check out a wood splitter for sale online. It's really convenient and there are lots of respectable sellers that offer bargain deals.
