Tooth sensitivity is the pain or discomfort one experience in their teeth when the teeth encounter certain substances and at certain temperatures.

Teeth sensitivity is one of the most common problems experienced by people all around the world. There are no specific at-risk age groups for teeth sensitivity. Teeth sensitivity occurs when the porous tissue of the teeth (dentin), is exposed. The microscopic channels, tubules, in the dentin connect the teeth to the nerve, and when these tubules are exposed, due to reasons such as enamel loss or gum tissue, the nerves get triggered more easily by certain stimulations which cause tooth sensitivity. Causes Of Teeth Sensitivity

As mentioned above, teeth sensitivity is a common dental problem amongst people all around the world. There is no age-specific risk factor for getting teeth sensitivity and can happen to anyone.

Brushing too hard: Brushing too hard can be very detrimental to your teeth, it can hurt the gums and cause them to get cut or inflamed.

Mouthwash: Alcohol-based mouthwashes and their frequent use have also been said to be contributing factors of experiencing teeth sensitivity.

Acidic foods: Acidic foods change the pH levels in the mouth and can affect the teeth, thereby making them weaker, which can cause teeth sensitivity.

Dental cleaning and treatments: Teeth sensitivity experienced sue to cleaning and other dental treatments are temporary and will go away within 2 to 3 days of such treatment.

Teeth whitening: Materials used while getting your teeth whitened can make the teeth weak and can cause teeth sensitivity.

Symptoms Of Teeth Sensitivity

The symptom of teeth sensitivity is a sudden and sharp flash of pain in the roots of your teeth when the teeth are exposed to foods and drinks which are-

• Cold
• Hot
• Sweet
• Acidic

Treatment Of Teeth Sensitivity

• Using a soft-bristled toothbrush: As mentioned above, using hard-bristled toothbrushes can cause teeth sensitivity, therefore choose a brush with soft bristles as they help in preventing gum loss.

• Using sensitivity toothpaste: Toothpaste for sensitivities are available which continue to remove the plaque that forms on the teeth as well as provides relief from such tooth sensitivity.

• Brushing and flossing two times a day: Brushing and flossing twice a day is an advice that every dentist gives to all of his patients. It helps in removing the plaque formed on your teeth over the day as well as the plaque formed on your teeth over the night.

• Ensuring all parts of the mouth are cleaned: Ensure, that while brushing you clean all the parts of your mouth. Including the area between the teeth and the gun line.

• Avoiding foods and drinks that are acidic: Acidic foods and drinks are known to cause tooth sensitivity. Try and avoid such foods and drinks as much as possible.
