Antioxidants

Antioxidants are known to fight free radicals that cause awful diseases. Phenols in red wine provide antioxidants that help keep the radicals at bay. White wine also contains equal if not a higher amount of phenols.

Lowers the risk of multiple cancers

The fight against cancer has become a vicious battle and all the help you can get is necessary. Red wine doesn’t allow free radicals to thrive. Resveratrol also helps fight cancerous cells.  It helps fight:

Breast Cancer- Red grapes act as an aromatase inhibitor which is an enzyme allows breast tumours to produce estrogen.

Colon cancer- Red wine lowers colon cancer risk by 50%
Prostate cancer- The antioxidants present in flavonoids and resveratrol counter androgens that stimulate the prostate. Men who consume red wine were found to have a 52% lower chance of this particular diagnosis.
A glass of cabernet sauvignon a day won’t hurt.

Boost the immune system

Moderate consumption of red wine boosts your immunity and wards off infections. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember excessive consumption of alcohol is harmful to your health.

Increases your lifespan and slows ageing

Communities that have incorporated red wine into their dietary patterns have been seen to live longer. Crete and Sardinia have an anti-ageing lifestyle and dark red wine plays a big role in it. Procyanidins found in red wine tannins promote cardiovascular health and people who live longer have been found to have a high concentration of it. This is particularly evidenced in Sardinia and southwest France.

Strengthens your bones and teeth

Red wine contains silicon which is important for bone density lowering the risk of you suffering from osteoporosis. It also has polyphenols which prevent harmful bacteria from weakening your teeth.  Essentially, it prevents tooth decay.

Lowers the risk of heart disease

Red wine is famously known to prevent heart attacks. Usually said as a joke but it is a fact that indeed it lowers the risk of heart diseases. According to the American Heart Association, moderate consumption of red wine lowers one's chances of heart disease by 20%.  This is because red wine decreases bad cholesterol decreasing inflammation and coronary artery diseases.

Good for your skin

The resveratrol in red win inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria. You can combine it with benzoyl peroxide for a better outcome. Instead of purchasing expensive antioxidants creams, imbibe them from wine, vegetables, and fruits.

Lowers the risk of Diabetes

This is especially true with type II diabetes. Resveratrol increases sensibility to insulin hence reducing insulin resistance. Also, the polyphenols in red wine are important in the regulation of blood sugars.

Lowers stroke risks

Red wine acts as a natural blood thinner as it contains phenols. As a result, it breaks any blood clots that might lead to a stroke. However, you are cautioned against excessive alcohol as you get the opposite results. So, moderation is important.

Increases cognitive function

A glass of red wine improves brain function protecting one from diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Before you engage in a brain game or exercise, a glass of red wine will help cheer your brain up.
