Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: What You Need To Know

Both Xperia’s are equipped with a new 21:9 aspect ratio screen. These Xperia 10 siblings are Sony's first new phones to use this slim display, and the expensive Xperia 1 flagship launched later this year. This particular screen measures 6.5 inches on the diagonal instead of 6 inches on a regular phone, although it has the same 2,520 x 1,080 resolution.

There are some key differences between the two models. First, Plus uses the Snapdragon 636 processor and 4GB of RAM instead of Qualcomm's lightweight 630 chipset and 3GB. A slightly larger 3,000 mAh capacity battery can also be stabilized, while the main 12 megapixel camera is located next to the 2x optical zoom and 8 megapixel sensor instead of the auxiliary depth sensing unit on the conventional Xperia 10.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Price And Competition

Obviously, these upgrades will have a slightly greater impact on your wallet. If you decide to pick up the Xperia 10 Plus instead of the base model, it will get you back to the price of £349 - £50. Considering the long-term improvement list of Xperia 10 Plus, this has not increased much, and I will cover it in detail later in this review.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Design And Key Features
As you might expect, the new aspect ratio does take the first impression. Although this is a 6.5-inch phone - theoretically the same size as the another smartphone - it doesn't feel half easy because it maintains a similar width to existing phones that we know and love.

Is that a problem? Well, not necessarily, but it's not my recommended phone, not to try it first.

Of course, tall screens also have their advantages. Sony pointed out that 69% of movies on Netflix are shot at a 21:9 aspect ratio. You can also see more, if the software supports it, this is a pretty big "if" given that Sony is currently plowing his own lonely vacation in the 21:9 space. Whether people are paying enough attention to getting a real movie experience on a 6.5-inch device and sacrificing a bit of usability is an open question.

Mind, you will not sacrifice your appearance. Although the Xperia series is clearly still there (read: it's more angular and blocky than other phones), the Xperia 10 Plus is really cool enough. The screen covers most of the front of the device, and there is no need for a notch except for the front lower border of the front lower camera and the slightly larger forehead border.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Display

As for the quality of the stretch screen, its specifications are difficult to make great potential. After all, this is an IPS panel, so you can't expect its OLED competitors to have similar results, and its fairly standard Full HD+ (2.520 x 1,080) resolution is not worth yelling.

In our technical tests, the Xperia 10 Plus screen is not as good as its cheaper screen. Our display colorimeter records an average sRGB color gamut coverage of only 77% and a Delta E of 2.72, reflecting many inaccurate colors, most notably red, pink and green. In fact, the screen looks a bit dull and faded, although it's far from the worst smartphone display I've ever tested.

However, there are some positive factors that can be found. The dazzling maximum brightness of 577cd / m2 is ideal for sunny conditions, while the phone's contrast ratio is 1,492:1, ensuring that text and images look as accurate as possible. For those colors that don't look so beautiful, this is just a huge shame, otherwise the Xperia 10 Plus will get a perfect score here.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Performance and Battery Life

The biggest difference between the two Xperia 10 phones is power consumption. Compared to the 10 Snapdragon 630 and 3GB, the 10 Plus comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and 4GB of RAM. In short, this is the difference between the recent Moto G7 Plus and last year's Moto G6 Plus, which also happens to use the same chips as the two new Xperia's.

Still, there are some worrying things in the last sentence. If you find it, the most important thing to note is. More specifically: Sony is charging £350 for a phone that uses the same chip, which is priced at £269 Also consider that you can buy with the Snapdragon 845 processor at the same price, and the Sony Xperia 10 Plus is a bit frustrating at first.

Its benchmark scores are no exception, even if they represent a significant improvement on small phones. In the demanding CPU test, Sony's oversized handsets achieved an overall multicore result of 4,909 - a significant 20% increase over the Xperia 10. In any case, this still leaves the Xperia 10 Plus behind some fairly strong competitors, although I certainly didn't tear my hair out of frustration for everyday use.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Camera

As for the phone's camera settings, there is a dual array setup, just like on the smaller 10. But the 10 is equipped with a 13 megapixel camera, supported by a 5 megapixel depth sensor, and the 10 Plus is a megapixel camera supported by a 12-800 megapixel 2x optical zoom event. In my opinion, the ability to take photos from farther places is far more useful than the death art Instagram photos that blur the background.

Sony Xperia 10 Plus Review: Judgment

Then, with the score increased, it is clear that the Xperia 10 Plus is the best of both phones. It not only solves the criticism of conventional size models, but also brings them closer to competitors of the same price. If you have already picked up your Sony phone after the contract has been used, then this is where your wallet should go.

However, I must try to convince you to go somewhere else. Of course, Sony's mid-range phones can do the job, but there are countless other smartphones that can do the same with the same money. If Sony wants to beat that the competition, it must work harder.
