India has always been a favourite travel destination in the world. People all around the world come here to experience its greatness, spirituality and impressive culture. In spite of being such a beautiful country, there is a hoard of negative press releases on the difficulties solo female travellers face in India. We are listing down a number of safety tips for solo woman travellers to make travelling safe and rewarding in India.
Acclimatize with its culture
Tour packages in India reveal the ancient, traditional and multi-cultural side of this wonderful country for sure. This country is so very different to the Western world but it is never less alluring. If you are a first-timer here, you will be amazed to see how this country has learned to accept and embrace the differences and then go with the flow. Travelling in India for a solo female at times might be challenging but it is your attitude that will determine the fate of your India trip. Rather than fighting, try to fit in with the Indian culture to ensure both your safety and sanity.
In order to have the best tour package in India or anywhere in the world, it is important for solo female travellers to be confident. Always be alert and hold yourself well all through the trip. There is absolutely no harm in being polite but people may read this as a sign of weakness. Always stand up for yourself and don’t hesitate to blow the whistle. Don’t afraid to create a scene in public if you feel like somebody is cheating, teasing or harassing you. Also learn to ignore people who approach to offer you best deals or to take selfies with you. Make local people understand that you are not an ‘easy target’.
India is a conservative country. Indian culture is not very comfortable in showing too much skin particularly for women. Women travellers must respect this traditional way of dressing and shouldn’t wear scanty dresses that flaunt too much skin. Doesn’t matter how much hot it is, wear comfortable but decent dresses. If you can then it is best to get yourself cladded in a saree or salwar-kurta during your tour package in India. They are colourful yet very comfortable to wear. Wearing western dresses are very much in trend but donning Indian appeal helps you blend well with local people.
Follow the local women
When you are in any country where you never been before, it is best to follow how local women to understand how they are behaving or dressing in public. This is a very useful clue to what you should and shouldn’t do in a foreign land.
Don’t arrive somewhere late at night
Plan your travel wisely to avoid late night arrival in a new city. Late night flight creates too much hassle to take taxi or bus or train to reach your hotel. Avoid taking public transport at night as much as possible while travelling in India. Travel on AC coach in train and try to grab a front seat in a bus just behind the driver. When you are alone it is better to travel under broad day light as it is way safer.
