Purpose:
A marketing strategy deals with the "why" and the "what" of your company which means it takes into account your brand personality and what message you want to send across to your target audiences.
The marketing plan deals with the "how", which outlines the activities and the tactics that are going to enable you to achieve the goals set by your marketing strategy.
Timing:
A marketing strategy has to be developed before beginning any marketing activities. Your strategy is the base or the foundation of your entire marketing endeavour and sets the tone for all the activities that will be carried out in the marketing plan. Marketing strategies should not have any significant changes in short time periods but should rather be evaluated on a quarterly basis to accommodate any changes in the market or budget or teams.
A marketing plan is developed once a suitable marketing strategy has been established. The marketing plan can outline a number of different campaigns over the quarter and the activities may be established according to the platforms used, the target audience and the message that needs to be portrayed.

 Long term company goals
 Marketing goals
 Brand positioning
 Consumer Analysis
 Competitor Analysis
 Brand Persona
An ideal marketing plan consists of:
 Short term campaign goals
 Key milestone timeline
 Platforms and channels
 Budgets
 Marketing activities
 Type of content & topics to cover

The most common question that advertising agencies in Pune encounter is "Do I really need both a strategy and a plan?"
The answer is Yes!
As seen above, the most common issue brands face is carrying out marketing activities without any formal plan or long term objective in place.
