You are all excited and ready to welcome your little baby into your life. You have been scanning baby stores and websites to purchase all the baby essential products. You buy baby diapers, rompers, wipes, baby bibs, cap, sleeping sheets, towel, blanket all the things that will be needed to keep your baby comfortable. Parenting is a joyous experience, but when you aren’t able to soothe your crying baby it can get daunting.

Understanding your baby’s cry can be a bit difficult at first. But with time, all parents become a pro at comprehending their baby's needs at various times. We have listed the most common reasons why babies cry and how to calm your baby.

1. For the first few months babies have to be fed quite often. The primary reason for your baby crying can be hunger. Breastfed babies need to be fed more often than formula milk as breast milk is easily digested and so your baby gets hungry. Initially, you might have to feed your baby every 2-3 hours, sometimes even after 90 minutes. So if your baby is crying, it can mean hunger, try feeding your baby.

2. The next common reason for a crying baby is a wet or soiled diaper. Even the best newborn diapers need to be changed frequently. Check your baby’s diaper every 2-3 hours. When your baby is crying it may be because the diaper is soiled or fully soaked. Change the diaper immediately. It's best to clean your baby’s bottom with some warm water and pat dry with a soft towel before putting the baby in a fresh diaper. You will need around 8-10 diapers daily for the first month, so keep a stock of diapers handy at home. Check the various diaper brands available and carefully check the feature and opt for the best quality at low price baby diapers.

3. Babies also get cranky when they are feeling too cold or too hot during sleep. Check your baby’s belly or neck to see if the baby is hot or cold. Yes, babies prefer it slightly warm but sometimes we tend to over clothe our baby. Your baby might cry because it’s too hot and the baby wants some air. Simply removing the sheet or blanket will make the baby comfortable. At times, especially when in an air-conditioned room if not wrapped properly, your baby might be cold. Reduce the air-conditioning and cover the baby’s hands and feet in a soft blanket so your angel is warm and can sleep comfortably.

4. When babies cry often and calming them seems just impossible, it could be colic or gas. Colic is common in babies but gets very disturbing when despite all your efforts your baby doesn't stop crying. Check the medicines for colic from your pediatrician. Normally making your baby lie on the belly helps to relax the baby. Burp your baby after feeds. If you are breastfeeding check your diet. See if eliminating caffeine, spicy foods and dairy from your diet, helps to reduce your baby’s colic. Try placing your baby belly down on your chest and rub your baby’s back. This will help to soothe the baby.

5. Another common reason for your baby crying is rashes. Both cloth and disposable diapers can cause rashes. Try to change the wet nappy or diaper immediately and clean your baby’s bottom with a baby wipe or soft towel. Keep the baby’s skin dry and then change into a fresh diaper. Choose diapers that are gentle on your baby’s skin and always check the reviews carefully when you buy diapers online. If you see inflammation and redness on baby’s skin, ask the pediatrician for a good diaper rash cream.

6. Newborn babies will sleep most of the time. Often babies cry when they are tired and want to sleep. Hold your baby snugly over the shoulder and carry your baby around gently stroking on the back. Cuddling your baby, sing a relaxing song to help the baby sleep. Most of the time babies just need their mother’s touch, simply holding the baby in your arms will calm the baby.
