Well, having allergies doesn’t need to stop you from spending time outdoors. What you need is to be aware of the kind of plants you will be growing in your perennial garden design and finding the secondary plants that will make your garden harmless and attractive at the same time.

Here are six plants to avoid growing in your garden that can trigger allergies and their substitutes.

Oxeye daisy (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum).

Oxeye daisy is one of the most favorite summer daisies, but the flowers, leaves, pollen, scent and even the sap can effect in hay fever, rashes, hives and other unpleasant indications.
So if you want dainty flowers in summer, you can grow Variety Garden Phlox alternatively. Phlox flowers bloom during the summer and they come in different colors such as white, pink, rose, red and lavender to adorn your perennial garden design.

When planted in the ground, it can reach 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide, but when grown in container it can be smaller and it is a favorite houseplant or great decoration to your custom patio design.

Castor Bean (Ricinus communis).

Castor bean is a fast-growing and cheap plant with immense leaves and bunched flowers that are an outstanding addition to your garden. Sadly, all parts of this awesome plant, especially the seed/pollen can be a major causing for allergic reaction.
If you want something that makes a statement, consider growing hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) alternatively. Its attention-getting flowers in a wide range of hues including red, orange, yellow, white and pink attract hummingbirds and butterflies into your landscape design.

So if you want to replace a good-looking and odorous ground cover, consider growing woolly thyme (Thymus pseudolanuginosus). It is a fast-growing secondary that can be grown everywhere–looks great in rock gardens, awesome between stepping stones and fascinating spilling over a wall or over container edges. It is eye-catching for butterflies, bees and beneficial insects.

Jasmine (Jasminumspp.).

Jasmine is one of the sweet smellings, a fast-growing and quickly spreading climber that’s filled with flowers suitable for your garden and custom pergolas, but can cause allergies that will affect you indoors.
If you want an odorous climber without causing allergies, then consider planting sweet peas (Lathyrus spp.) in your garden. Although sweet peas don’t provide white flowers, the seductive perfume they emit powerfully inform the movement of Springtime.

Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda, W. chinensis).

Wisteria is a high-climbing vine, blooms passionately in the spring season with large, drooping clusters of lilac or bluish-violet flowers, perfect for draping over custom patios, but the pollen is a leading hay fever initiation, and even touching the plant can drive skin allergies. Also, note it is an aggressive plant and if used on a pergola we suggest making a custom metal pergola because it has been set up to twist wood.
