Learn How To Balance Yoga And Meditation

Can too much Meditation cause me to detach? Yes, it can do so. Learn the ways to do the Yoga and the meditation in the right proportion.

It has been 3 years now that I have been following a different path and doing something every day that challenges the notions and stereotypes. My every day journey encompasses a daily 60 minute Yoga practice and I have no word to describe the transformation that I have been through in these 3 years. This one beautiful art has catapulted my life into something meaningful and I have found a new balance in my mind and soul. Even though I learnt from a Guru, I somehow felt the need to meliorate my skills and learn the unfathomable facts of this mystic practice. After being a part of various Yoga retreats in India, I decided to take a bold plunge and pursue a venture abroad. Always fascinated by the beauty of Nepal, I pinned down this beautiful country as my destination.

My Quest for an Awakened Soul

The complete environment was like a pious tabernacle with the incense sticks sweeping away the negativity and concentrated Yogic poses attracting abundance. Our Guruji, who has been a part of a number of Yoga Teacher Training in India programs as well, was shining in his aura. He narrated how Yoga can help balance everything in life. For me, the biggest concept that I needed to master was to equally bifurcate my regime, which means Yoga & meditation and that too in a way that my mind and body experiences equilibrium.
This burning desire to learn more of this art solidified my intentions to take my Yoga Teacher Training in Nepal to the core of my heart. Why Nepal though? Nepal is our sibling with its beautiful Hindu culture brimming with the beauty of Himalayas and I had this childish desire anyways to trek the hills of Nepal. This opportunity was definitely from the hands of God.

What is the Secret to Balance?

Here is what I learned about overdoing the exercises. Why you need to learn the balance? The answer to this question is the fact that overdoing meditation for instance can lead to a number of devastating scenarios:
• Feeling of detachment, irritability
• Diabetes (I was surprised at this one)
• Addiction to the art of meditation
• Delusions
• Major ecstatic rapture
Now that you know why you need a balance in your regime, it is time to learn the 5 ways to bring in equilibrium.

1. Your Goal

Before you learn the balance, it is important for you to write down your fitness goals. What is that you want from this journey? Once you know the real deal, maintaining a balance will never be a challenge.

2. Know the Best Time

Meditation needs a present mind and not an absent psyche. Respect your body and see when it is most focused for a meditation session. It can be in the evening or in the wee hours, whatever the case is you have to observe the focus and the appropriate time. This way, the meditation session will be relaxing and not overwhelming.

3. Start Journaling

It is an alien concept for many but Journaling is a great way to amplify the benefits of Yoga & meditation. This method can serve you in many ways like de-cluttering a chaotic mind, gratitude, counting your blessings, and as a result feeling more relaxed. Start your day with journaling and then begin your Yogic regime. You will feel rejuvenated during the process.

4. Yoga: Make it the Start & End

Right after the journaling, begin performing your poses. This is for two reasons- You will be ready for meditation and a cardio (power Yoga & Surya Namaskar) will release feel-good hormones. The day has to end on a good note, therefore, incorporate gentle poses like Yoga Nidra and Savasana. You will feel relaxed, light, and even ready for some meditation.

5. No More than….

My Yoga Teacher Training in Nepal taught me that a practice lasting for about 70 minutes that includes journaling, Yoga and meditation is enough to reach my fitness goals. The three entities do their shots well and I shall never feel the need to do more of any one of the things.
Balance is the key!
