Thai Massage Is Much More Than Stretching

Thai massage is all about stretching, right? Absolutely wrong! The stretches look interesting, and they’re a unique & highly developed element in Thai massage. However, there’s a lot more than stretching to this beautiful form of massage.

Let’s analyze the four elements of Thai massage in Manchester:

Element 1: Massage:

It’s known as Thai massage for a reason. There’re several techniques such as leaning, pressing, rocking, rolling, squeezing and circling which are employed by the practitioner.

Element 2: Energy Line (SEN) Work:

Thai massage employs genuine bodily massage movements which are performed along those energy lines & meridians.

To the amateur eyes, it all seems like simple massage, however the bodily massage methods follow the path of the sen lines. This is rather different from the western type where the practitioner works on anatomical components such as ligaments, joints and muscles.

In the western world the emphasis is on the anatomy, whilst in the eastern world the emphasis is on boosting energy flow in the sen lines.

Element 3: Stretching:

This is what this system is popular for & where the name Thai Yoga Massage is originated from. The stretches are associated to yoga postures. This is not astonishing since this healing art has its roots in India’s yoga system.

The myth is to think that Manchester Thai Massage is predominantly a system of stretches. This is wrong and merely a partial picture.

Element 4: The Real Art of It:

The 4th element is what combines the other 3 elements together & makes them work tunefully. This is really critical in Thai massage. For instance the sen lines aren’t only mechanical method. They have to be felt & sensed to be productive.

Or take the knee or elbow work of Thai massage. Visualize a therapist sticking an elbow in your back without feeling. This can get painful, and that is why this modality sometime has the repute of being a throbbing system.

Henceforth feeling & sensitivity are absolutely critical for both stretching and sen line work as well as for all the massage methods.

You might say that this is essential for all massage systems, and this is right.

However it’s even more critical for Thai Massage in Manchester since it deals directly with energy lines, it uses usually massive stretching methods, and it uses elbows, knees and feet. So the risk of overstretching or using excessive pressure is greater in Thai Massage than in most western modalities.

Feeling, sensitivity & intuition are the elements which connect the first 3 elements in a harmonious way. They create a flowing & artistic way which combines massage moves, energy line work and stretches into a beautiful & highly effective healing arts system.
