Keep Spick And Span Aluminium Windows With These 4 Cleaning Methods
Aluminium windows are a popular choice amongst both homeowners and commercial building owners or builders. This is mainly because they are known to be durable and low maintenance compared to other materials.
However, just because aluminium windows are considerably more low maintenance does not mean it should be left without proper cleaning for too long. Over time, they would still accumulate dirt and grime on their supposedly shiny surfaces.
These windows need to be cleaned from the outside and the inside. Also, despite being made from sturdy material, the wrong way of cleaning them can still lead to damage that may sometimes be irreparable.
Stop yourself from potentially harming your aluminium windows with these cleaning tips.
#1 Use Warm Soap Water
Most of the time, good old soap and water are all it takes to give your aluminium windows a good clean. Of course, this would also go for the frames and not just the windows themselves.
Cleaning agents aren’t usually necessary when cleaning aluminium windows, especially since these contain a considerable amount of chemicals. Using such cleaning agents can potentially damage the finish of your aluminium windows due to the harsh chemicals in the agents.
#2 Brush Clean and Vacuum Sashes and Corners
Get into the sashes and corners of your aluminium windows using a stiff brush, which can also help you clean the area surrounding your windows. Sometimes just plain dowsing and wiping your windows with the soapy water won’t be enough to remove the accumulated dirt on the sashes and corners.
If there are any particular stubborn dirt spots that still don’t come off with the stiff brush, try putting on a small nozzle on your vacuum cleaner. This way, you should be able to remove any visible specs of dirt on your windows.
#3 Use a Glass Spray
Should your windows turn out not as shiny you would have liked them to be, you can use a cleaner or spray specifically for glass. You can get glass spray at any hardware store closest to you, and since these are made for glass, you can be sure the chemicals in them will not pose any harm to your windows.
Using a sponge or a multipurpose cloth, work on cleaning the glass starting at the left going right. From then on you should go from top to bottom, so any excess you spray on a certain area of the window drips down to an area that has not been wiped down yet.
#4 Solve Stubborn Stains with Paint Thinner
At times we may encounter a stain that will not budge no matter how hard or how many times we scrub them down with our soap water combination. If you continue to scrub too hard you may end up damaging your windows, so instead use the right amount of paint thinner to get that pesky stain off.
Make sure you read the package directions to protect both the windows and yourself and use steel wool to apply paint thinner on stubborn stains. However, make sure to scrub gently to avoid any scratches.
