Establishing an effective virtual team will require exemplary leadership, team training, easy access to technology, and also rules to protect members that address differences in cultures, time zones, and languages. Forming effective virtual teams tend to be difficult; however, with effort and awareness of all parties, it is possible to have an effective team. Some of the factors to consider for the successful virtual team is creating and maintain trust and opening the lines of communication among team members.

Building trust in virtual teams is essential. Trust tends to take a whole new meaning in the virtual teams. In the case of a geographically distributed team, we can measure trust in terms of reliability (Liu et al. 2008). The leaders in a virtual team should concentrate on creating a process where team members deliver results in a repeated sequence. In this manner, it is easy to establish and maintain trust. Establishing trust can benefit the group for virtual meeting have a robust participation of team members.

Communication is important in helping ensure the effectiveness of a virtual team. The lines of communication in a virtual team must be open. Leaders must be extra proactive in their communication to ensure everyone understand what is expected. Members of a virtual team may feel isolated when they fail to get regular communication. A recommendation for enhancing communication is through setting ground rules about communication frequency, the extent of feedback, effective qualities of communication, and knowledge access. I have experience with the recommendation on communication working. Ensuring that open lines of communication exist helps team members because it ensures that they are aware of what is happening and also how the team is performing.
