A Novice Trekker? Check Out The Annapurna Base Camp Trek!
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also popularly called the ABC Trek has everything that an avid trekker can ask for. Spectacular views, hot springs, rare flora, and fauna, together with all the adventure and thrill!
The popularity of the trek is often credited to the fact that it is an easier and a shorter trek when compared to the other treks in Nepal. But this does not take away any fun or thrill from this beast with a beauty. The ABC trekkers get a close encounter with the world’s tenth highest peak and that is an incredible attraction for most of the Mountaineers.
Main attractions of the Trek
The ABC Trek is a love at first sight for every mountain lover. Right from the beginning of the trek from Pokhara, the trekkers get to enjoy the blissful views of snow-capped mountain peaks. By the time you reach Ghandruk, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare, popularly called ‘the fish tailed mountain’ are all clearly visible. Then there is a sight of exotic flora and fauna in the wilderness of forests of Himalaya and Deur. Post this; Machapuchare appears gloriously over the blue sky. The mountain is exquisitely beautiful and is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva by the people of Nepal. At the Machapuchare base camp, one also gets to see the Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and Gangapurna up close.
And the list of attractions does not just end here! Since there are several villages across the trek, the trekkers doing the ABC Trek get a fair chance to get up, close and personal with the villagers of Nepal and get a feel of the Nepalese culture too. They stay in the tea houses that are run by locals and can easily accommodate about 25 people. The food that is served here is the local Nepalese food. Communication is also not a problem since most of the people understand and speak English.
Best time to do the Trek
While any time of the year is good to trek the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, it is advisable to avoid the monsoon when the place can get extremely dark and slippery. This could mean missing the spectacular views of the peaks and being welcomed by leeches and mosquitoes all around the day. However, autumn can be regarded as the best time to trek any part of Nepal since the weather is dry, the sky is clear and the temperature, moderate.
Level of fitness and experience required
Popularly recognized as a ‘not-so-difficult’ trek, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is actually a Grade B trek which means it is moderately difficult. So any individual who is physically fit can do this trek, irrespective of any prior experience. One can also choose to go solo on the trek and skip hiring an agency or a tour guide. You just have to be well aware of the facts and figures and be confident to enjoy the adventures.
So if you are hungry for adventure and thrill, the
is just the right trek to satiate that for you! Remember to plan out your trip well if you are planning to skip an agency or hire a porter or a guide. It is advisable to rent all the expensive gear instead of buying it. Do not forget to carry all your personal medications with you at all times. Even though the trek is a long, difficult and tiring one, it is worth all the adrenaline rush and spectacular views you get.
So go ahead, pack your bags and get going!
