System Development Life Cycle

The development of any project should begin with a well-documented feasibility analysis and system analysis; otherwise the project may face a lot of challenges. A wide area network (WAN) is a network that covers a wide geographical area, and it consists of small networks such as a local area network and a metro area network. On the other hand, the system development life cycle (SDLC) is a methodology for developing systems, software or any project following a series of processes from start to end chronologically. The usage of SDLC in the development of a WAN, in this case, will be very vital as the methodology ensures there is complete development and that the result justifies the efforts and resources used. The paper concerns the first two phase of SDLC that include planning and system analysis of SDLC in the development of a WAN in question.
Feasibility analysis
The purpose of carrying out a planning is to offer a decision-making authority of a company with the required documentation from which they can decide that the project can have an implementation. In the planning of the WAN, there is first the identification of the applications that the network will utilize. The essence of understanding the applications will be useful in estimating hardware, software as wells as traffic requirements for the network under design (DiMarzio, 2001). The network in question will have such applications as video, voice and data communications services. The network will also contain network and file sharing besides other applications that will be shareable across all offices of the organization. That means that there should be high capacity for this network so as to accommodate video and voice. There will be a need to install Skype software and sound drives to enable the provision of video and voice services across the network.
For us to ensure that the network is scalable, we will have the provision to add users to the WAN, applications, sites as well as external network connections. Scalability is the extent of the network growth that you need to support. There will be wired connections across all the local offices and wireless connections to the remote offices to ensure there is sharing of vital data, files, and other documents. There will also the provision of high bandwidth to ensure that there are no problems with the network connections or slow speed of the network. Since the WANs require high bandwidth that is costly, there should be careful planning and design with the involvement of all stakeholders and financiers. We will work with the Creative Consulting Company to ensure that we have all the costs, schedule, and other expenses right. The Company will also help to provide other services that will ensure that the network meets the expectations of the users and that it performs at its maximum.
“When designing a network another aspect that one needs to give careful consultation if the availability. Availability is the amount of time that the network will be available to users over a given period” (Syngress, 2000). We will design for an available network 24/7 taking into consideration the amount of redundancy that the network in question requires. We also plan for security as well as accessibility of this network and this plan for the network entails the following required security specifications. There will be the provision of high security for the network services like the FTP, The web, e-mail and other applications on the network. The network manager of the company will administer the security while collaborating with the data security administrator. There will be the training for the employees and all staff on security policies and procedures besides having a recovery plan in case of breaching the network security. To ensure cost optimization, below are the elements that we will put implement to optimize the WAN cost:
• There will be efficiency improvement on WAN circuitry through the use of voice activity detection and compression.
• We will put in place the ATM technology that is essential in dynamically allocating the WAN bandwidth.
• There will be the integration of voice and data circuits.
• We will ensure that the underutilized circuits have optimization or elimination.
