The capital city and a union territory of India, Delhi is also the second-wealthiest city of the country. It is one of the most visited cities in the world by foreign tourists, who arrive in this city to explore its world-famous attractions. Most of them were built during the rule of the Mughal Empire. According to the United Nations, the city has the second-largest urban area in the world. Although the history of Delhi dates back to the times before the 2nd millennium BCE, there is evidence of its inhabitation only since the 6th century BCE.

As soon as you arrive in any of the Delhi flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, you can get to the hotel where you've booked your stay or to any other place in the city with the help of its efficient transport modes. During your time spent in Delhi, you'll get the chance to visit some fantastic attractions. Among the most popular ones is the Red Fort, which was constructed during the mid-17th century by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan. It is truly a magnificent structure with massive walls built of red sandstone and spread across a total area of over 2 kilometres.

Many of the tourists ask for the Qutub Minar as soon as their flights to Delhi land at the city's airport and they reach the hotel where their stay has been arranged. This is the tallest minaret in India and was built in the 12th century. It gives you the opportunity to get to its topmost portion and enjoy fascinating views of the surroundings. The tower is covered with some intricate carvings and has a height of over 70 metres. A mosque has been constructed at the base of the Qutub Minar. The first three storeys of this tower have been constructed using red sandstone, while the marble and sandstone were used to construct the fourth and fifth storeys.

Some tourists book their accommodation close to the airport to avoid any hassles in reaching their hotel after their flights to Delhi land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. You can also book your stay closer to the airport, which would also give you the required convenience in visiting the India Gate. It appears a bit like the Arc de Triomphe of Paris. This structure was constructed as a memorial to the Indian soldiers, who were killed in the Second World War.

Don't miss visiting the Lotus Temple, which is a magnificent place of worship for the people of the Baha'i Faith. It is open to all, irrespective of their faith or beliefs. It is an architectural masterpiece, constructed using marble and white concrete and resembles a lotus. The entire structure appears to be rising from the nine pools of water that surround it. Opened to the public in the year 1986, the Lotus Temple attracts plenty of visitors every year and is among the most visited attractions in the world. You can reach this temple from the Kalkaji Mandir metro station which is located at a distance of 500 metres from it.
