Steps To Prevent Rusting With Paint

Things made up of metal like fences, swings, gates, mailbox, etc. are prone to rust if they are not taken care of properly. People are aware of the damage on walls and woods but not much about metals which results in taking no preventive measures. Rust starts forming as soon as metal gets exposed to rain, dew, snow, and even high humidity. If you take no actions against it, it can corrode the iron and damage it permanently. Whether the surface is already starting to rust or has not started yet, you need to protect it by painting the metal to prevent it from rusting, and like every surface, it needs to be rigorous, thorough, and systematic. Here is how to do it step by step. We tend to skip steps in Nepal in a rush but if you want it to last long, follow these steps accordingly.

Gear up

Gear yourself up wearing heavy gloves, goggles, and a dust mask to protect yourself from dust and the rust.
Remove peeling paint
First, remove particles of peeling paints or any loose rust using a chisel-style scraper for heavy rust and paints and a wire brush for the remaining. If the rusted area is huge, use disk sander or electric grill attaching it with a wire brush. If you can, rent power wire-brushing equipment.

Clean up

After wire brushing, clear residual paint, and dust with a soft bristle brush. Scrub off the surface with water and detergent and rinse off with clean water.

Prime

After cleaning up, prime the surface immediately as the rust reforms quickly if exposed for more than a day or two. You might end up having to do it all over again if you delay it. Doing it immediately, not just saves you from re-doing it, but finishes tasks quickly as well. Apply two coats of primer for best results.

Paint

After priming, use Asian metal primer red oxide made up of synthetic resins with corrosion inhibiting pigments to make your metal surface corrosion resistant. For durability and better resistance, apply thick coats of paint. If you are working on a large area, use a brush to apply both paint and primer.
Following these steps, you can secure things made up of metals effectively. Make sure to not compromise with the quality of paints and primers as it is a key to durability and efficiency. If you are not sure about doing it yourself, hire a painter to do it for you. You can reach out to local ones in Nepal easily.
