Ways To Practice Positive Language In The Classroom

Educators play more than one role. They act like teachers, coaches, and caretakers, custodians to students. They don’t just tell students what they need to learn, but also show them how to behave by setting good examples.
Classroom situations can get difficult and stressful to manage. In such times it is important for teachers to remain mindful and use the positive language they aim to model.
Here are some ways the best international schools in Bangalore practice using positive language in the classroom:
1)Use “Can you use a softer voice?” instead of “Be Quiet”.
School days can get pretty noisy really fast. There are a number of unique ways for classroom management. With older kids, simply asking them to use a softer voice is enough. For younger children, you can try asking them to imitate a familiar animal, such as a quiet mouse, to help positively reach the desired noise level.
2)Use “What questions do you have” rather than “Do you have questions?”
Nothing stops a conversation before it begins like closed-ended questions. With a slight tweak in the way frame questions, we can keep make students welcome to ask more questions, so that they are ore engaged, and end up learning more.
3)Ask “How are you feeling’’ instead of “You’re OK.”
We’re often told that we are okay, or we’re fine when we are young. So much so that as adults, we repeat this statement without giving it much thought. However, if a child is crying, yelling, or giving us other signals that they are not okay, we should pay attention to that and believe them. Once we do this we empower students to help themselves.
4)Use “You can do this” in place of “It’s not that hard.”
Hearing that something is not that hard, or that it’s actually very easy, can cause self-doubt and lack in confidence in young learners.  By telling children something is easy and they should be able to do it we are risking making them feel like they aren’t smart enough to perform a certain task or learn something new. By acknowledging that they are capable of doing tough things we can build trust and faith in students enabling them to do better.
5)Use “I want to help” rather than “You have to listen.”
Whether a conversation takes place one on one with a student or with the whole class, getting students to listen can sometimes feel impossible. No matter the odds, letting students know that you are interested in helping them can get and retain their attention in the classroom, while continuing to build a stronger relationship.
