F1 Visa and M1 Visa What Are the Differences

F1 visa & M1 visa are the two classes of visa that are issued to international apprentices who want to study in the US. A student visa is a non-immigrant visa since it’s issued to students who don’t plan to stay in the United States forever. International apprentices who come to the United States to practice full-time academics or acquire professional skills are usually given one of these two non-immigrant visas.

F1 Visa:

F1 Visa is for apprentices attending a full-time degree at a school, university, or college approved by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement in compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

M1 Visa:

M1 visa is for apprentices registered in a non-academic study or vocational study. Technical studies, mechanical studies, language programs, cooking classes, flight school or cosmetology program, are a few that come under “vocational study.” The M1 student Visa for school is valid just for one year. Apprentices may apply for extensions for up to 3 years.

Not like the F1 visa, M1 visa holders are only allowed to decrease their course of study below full-time for medical causes & a maximum cumulative period of 6 months. Whereas F1 visa holders have the liberty to transfer schools, M1 students are usually only free to transfer schools inside the 1st six months of the program.

Student Visa Application:

The 1st step in applying for an F1 visa or M1 visa is acquiring a SEVIS generated I-20 form from the university that the apprentice intends to attend.

With the exemption of citizens of Bermuda and Canada, other students must apply for an F1 or M1 student visa at a U.S. consulate in their place of residence. You must show that you’ve been accepted at a SEVP authorized institution & also establish that you’ve financial means to pay for your study. Also, you should have required English proficiency. You must also make sure that you’ll come back to your home country at the conclusion of the academic or vocational program.

When you get into the US on a student visa application, your entry is generally valid for as long you have the student status. This suggests that you can swell in the US even following your F1 visa has expired, but you’re still a student in the institution. As soon as your course mentioned in I-20 or any authorized practical training is accomplished, you still get sixty days to prepare for the departure from the US or get enrolled in another program.
