Total Articles: 207
Design thinking is a methodology used in design which will the designer provide a solution-based approach for solving problems. It is an extremely useful tactic for tackling complex problems which are ill-defined or unknown, by understanding the needs involved and reframe the problem in the most human-centric ways, by making ideas and adopting different creative ways of dealing with the problem. Design Thinking stands fundamentally for successful strategy development and organizational change. The method of design thinking helps those who are eager on redesigning their ideas and meeting their challenges in new and constructive ways.
The 5 steps of Design Thinking process are:
The first stage of Design Thinking process is to gain an empathic understanding of the problem. This step will involve consulting experts for finding out more about the problem through observation, engaging also empathizing with people for understanding their experiences and motivations and immersing yourself in the environment for solving the problem.
2. Defining the problem:
Through the define stage, the designer will put all the information together they have created and gathered. When the designer defines the problem in design thinking, the designer will analyze the observations and arrange them in order to define the core problems that they have identified.
During this stage of design thinking, the designer will start generating ideas. After empathizing and analyzing the problems from observations the designer with their teams will start brainstorming and identify new solutions and alternative ways of viewing the problem. There are hundreds of ideation techniques such as brainstorm, brainwrite, SCAMPER. It is an essential part of getting as many ideas or problem solutions as possible at the beginning of the ideation phase. They should pick some other ideation techniques by the end of the ideation phase for helping them investigate and testing the ideas, so they can find the best way to solve the problem or providing the elements that will be required to take care of the problem.
The design team will then produce a part of inexpensive, scaled down versions of a product or specific features which are found within the product, so they can investigate the problem of the solutions that are generated in the previous stage with design thinking. The solutions are implemented within the prototypes and they are investigated and then they are either accepted, improved or re-examined.
The final stage of design thinking is an iterative process, but the results generated during the testing phase are also used to define one or more problems. Even during these phases, the alterations will be made, and the refinements are also made in order to rule out problem solutions.
