An interior designer will work with interior spaces to make them visually and physically pleasing. While decorating the space is a prime responsibility, interior designers may also focus on architectural aspects of space. The field of interior design allows the professionals working within the industry to combine their industry skills with various business acumen as they design functional spaces and interact with different types of clients.
An interior designer is someone who works with a client to create specific types of rooms and spaces. Generally, an interior designer is typically an independent contractor who will build a client base, but they can also work for large firms. An interior designer will create indoor spaces that will satisfy the clients need for aesthetics, safety and function. Interior designing involves furniture placement, color palette, decoration and functional décor, the designer will create kitchens which are elegant yet functional. A course in in interior designing will help the designer work with the elements such as the artwork, lighting, flooring, window treatments, contributing to the overall look which will satisfy the client’s needs. After a course in interior designing, the designer will be able to specialize in commercial or residential design or be involved in both.
Interior designers will make interior spaces functional, safe and beautiful by determining the space requirements and selecting different decorative items like colors, lighting and materials. They will read blueprints and must be aware of building codes and inspection regulations as well as universal accessibility standards.
Qualities required by an interior designer:
1. Artistic ability:
Interior designers use their sense of style for creating designs which are aesthetically pleasing.
Interior designers will have to be creative and imaginative in choosing the furnishings, fabrics and building the spaces for their clients.
3. Detail oriented:
Interior designers will have to be detail oriented for being precise in measuring the interior spaces and creating the drawings, so their drawings can be used for reference as well.
4. Problem solving skills:
Interior designers should also address challengers like construction delays and the high cost or sudden unavailability of materials, while keeping project on time.
Interior designers will need a strong sense of proportion and visual awareness for understanding how pieces of a design will fit together.
