Designing a product requires an analytical process and it relies on a problem-solving approach to improve the quality of the product. Product design is basically a way of problem-solving and visualizing the needs of the user and coming up with a solution which suits the customer’s specific set of requisites. Through product designing an individual can find simple solutions to complex business challenges. Product designing is the detailed specification of a manufactured item’s parts and their relationship to the whole product. A product design will take into account how an item will perform it’s intended functionality in an efficient, safe and reliable manner. The product will also need to be capable of being made economically and should be attractive enough to capture the targeted audience.

Public sector work may involve designing interactive facilities like public information points and equipment used by services such as the police, fire and ambulance. Self-employment, or employment through a design-based consultancy is also possible.
