Enjoy Cultural Delights With Luxury Holidays To Barbados
Located in the Caribbean region of North America, Barbados is an enchanting island country that offers ideal surroundings for you to unwind and enjoy a pleasant holiday. Bridgetown is its capital and largest city. The history of this city dates back to the times when it was inhabited by the Amerindians. In the 13th century, there were many Kalinago people living in the island country. The first Europeans to visit the island were the Spanish navigators, who claimed it for the Spanish Crown in the 15th century. Later, the island was possessed in the name of King James I by the British in the 17th century.
Barbados became an independent state and a British Commonwealth in the year 1966. It is now one of the leading tourist destinations of the Caribbean and visited by a large number of tourists every year, particularly from the United States of America, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The presence of several elegant hotels and resorts would allow you to enjoy your luxury holidays to Barbados. From the month of June to November, this island nation experiences its wet season with the highest rainfall. The dry season from December to May is characterised by a pleasant climate and is the best time to visit the island.
The Barbados holiday packages also allow you to witness the wildlife of the island country. It is home to four species of nesting turtles, namely the loggerheads, leatherbacks, green turtles, and the hawksbill turtles. The driving of vehicles must be avoided in the nesting areas, which is on the beaches. As the turtles create nests buried in the sand, the vehicles driven on the sandy stretch can crush them. The country also has a significant population of the green monkey. It was introduced in the late 17th century when the slave ships arrived in the country from the western part of Africa.
During your Barbados holidays, you'll get the opportunity to witness the rich culture of the country. It is an excellent blend of Creole, West African, British, and Indian cultures. The residents of this nation are usually called Barbadians, but the locals call themselves 'Bajans'. You'll come across massive celebrations during the largest cultural event hosted in the country annually, called the 'Crop Over' festival. It is an important event for most of the people living in this part of the world and includes several traditional activities and musical events.
An interesting aspect of the Crop Over festival is the crowning of the King and Queen of the crop, which is done to honour the male and female Barbadian who have harvested the most number of sugarcanes. The latest Calypso or Soca music is released and played usually from the beginning of May to set the mood for the Crop Over festival, which ends with a costumed parade on the first Monday of August. You would also get to taste the delectable treats from the local Bajan cuisine during your time spent on the island. The cuisine has been influenced by the Creole, African, Indian, British, and Irish cuisines.
