Penang is an attractive island in Malaysia and is the main constituent of the Penang state. It is an excellent mix of natural and cultural attractions, which gives you diverse experiences during your holiday spent in this charming Malaysian destination. The island was known as Prince of Wales Island during the British rule and the Penang state's capital George Town was founded by the British East India Company's Francis Light in the year 1786. It was briefly occupied by the Japanese during the Second World War until the end of the war.

Your cheap Penang holidays would give you the chance to explore the island's most popular attractions. One of them is Penang Hill, which provides great relief to its visitors during times of extreme heat on the island. A trip to higher reaches of this hill is an experience you can't afford to miss, as you'll be treated to some awe-inspiring views of the whole of Penang. You'll also appreciate the cool and unpolluted air while walking along the trails of this hill. If you like bird-watching, you'll be delighted to witness different species of birds flying around freely as the island is home to more than 100 species of birds.

While enjoying your Penang holiday, you can visit the Kek Lok Si temple, which is Malaysia's largest Buddhist temple. It is a large complex which houses temples, the pagoda, gardens, and four heavenly kings pavilion. On the hilltop, you'll find a big statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. The entire site is spread across a vast area of about ten acres. It was built by a Chinese Buddhist called Beow Lean in the late 19th century. The construction work was mainly funded by the donations received from the Chinese community that resided in Penang.

During your Penang holiday, you can explore the Wat Chaiyamangkalaram, a Thai Buddhist temple located in the capital city of George Town. It is home to one of the longest reclining Buddha statue in the world as well as the coloured statues of several mythical beings. At the time of the annual celebrations of Loi Krathong and Songkran festivals in the capital city, this temple becomes a focal point. It was built in the mid-19th century on a piece of land that Queen Victoria had granted to the Siamese community living in George Town. It was visited by the former Thai king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, and his consort, Queen Sirikit, in the year 1962.

If you wish to unwind on the most fascinating beaches while holidaying on this Malaysian island, you’ll have several choices. Upon visiting the Batu Ferringhi town, you can head to its sandy beach that has excellent facilities for visitors to enjoy some of the popular water sports. A short drive from George Town would take you to the suburb of Tanjung Bungah, where you'll find an enchanting beach that gives you the chance to relax and indulge in some exciting beachside adventures. If you're a fishing enthusiast, the beach of Gertak Sanggul would be an ideal place to visit.
