Create a mission statement for your email program:
The very first step towards your email marketing strategy is to create a mission statement sketching the core purposes of email marketing for your firm.It should be very clear in your mind that whether you are to provoke revenues, nurture leads, educate, or cling to customers.With the mission clearly stated you can further proceed with the next three steps.

Set SMART aims and track them:
SMART goals are often heard of, which are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. However, having smart objectives for your email marketing is what you need after you have created your mission statement. Now you can align your objectives with it and mention what you desire your subscribers to do. Hence you can ensure you have set up ways to track your achievement against these objectives.

Developing a comprehensive contact plan:
A contact plan is something that is used to map out the sequential order of the emails which you want to send, your segment and frequency. It’s important to inquire yourself and your marketing team why you target certain types of emails and to emphasize critically about what pays back the most value for your subscribers during this process.The basic idea is to map out the sequential order of emails in your existing program and then expand and boost them from there.

Present your strategy and get buy-in:
Now if you want to get buy-in from management and other people within your organization, it’s necessary to include them in your strategy and planning process. It is good to start with the basics and have an educational training session on email marketing best practices and concepts for people who are not familiar. At times, there are people that request irrelevant and untimely campaigns at a short notice. Having them equipped with basic knowledge can be relevant for getting them on board with your new strategy.You can now have your contact plan ready to be presented to the entire business.
