A Hamptons kitchen is deservedly a design classic that transcends the vagaries of superficial fashion trends. The key aspects here are elegance, calm and the signature features that are found in upmarket homes in the Hamptons. It’s a hard design to get right for a novice, the interior need to be spacious and embracing at the same time. Conjuring a beach casual beach related aesthetic is vital without going overboard. As a timeless design, this type of kitchen could easily translate into a traditional or modern home. In this article, we will take a look at three classic design elements that you will need to create a Hamptons style kitchen for your home.

1. Bright and Light

2. Shaker Cabinetry

One of the most recognisable features of a Hamptons kitchen is the shaker cabinetry. This originated in 18th century England as a style of door used in furniture designs. Over time it developed into design movement to create furniture that was functional, durable and plain. This simple design ethos is characterised by frame and panel door profiles, beveled frame edges and doors that are the same colour as the cabinets or frames. The finishes can be painted according to the colour palette mentioned above, or a polyurethane finish can be applied to let the natural wood show through. Glass doors are also popular and finishing with solid, simple fixtures can add a nice touch of class.

3. A Marble or Tile Splashback

A marble or tile splashback will work in your Hamptons kitchen design for both a traditional or modern home. It can be tempting to go with stainless steel or glass products, but these materials are too shiny and cold to support a Hamptons aesthetic. If you choose to use marble, the best options are Carrara or Calcutta. For a tile splashback, use a white subway tile that can look equally classic or modern. A darker tile could be used to bring some drama, but don’t go overboard and go for a pastel coloured tile to meet the colour palette criteria.
