Fish oil's benefits are due to its omega-3 fats that lower triglycerides and the bad cholesterol, reduce anxiety and prevent Alzheimer's, and lower cancer risk of the breast, colon, and prostate. They can also replace the anti-inflammatory drugs used to treat arthritis. If you're diabetic or on blood-thinners, avoid fish oil. If you are not, take it with antioxidants in a dose not more than 3 g a day unless so advised by your doctor.
Some Fats Are Good, Such As The Omega-3 Fats
These PUFAs or omega-3 fatty acids include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), two of the three essential omega-3 fatty acids the body cannot produce and must derive from food sources like fish or fish oil, the third one being alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), derived from plant sources like nuts and seeds. The human body can convert some of the ALA into EPA and DHA but not efficiently or in sufficient quantities.
You Find Omega-3 In Fish And Fish Oil
Of course, whole fish is most beneficial. But these days, fish also contains a high level of mercury in thanks to pollution. Hence, the oil extracted from the tissues of cold-water oily fish like mackerel, sardine, late trout, herring, albacore tuna, and salmon, which is sold as syrups or pills, remains the source of choice for these omega-3 fatty acids.
Until recently, fish oil was touted to be a panacea thanks to its omega-3 content, but more and more findings suggest that it may not be an absolute champion after all. Let’s take a look at the purported health benefits of omega 3 fatty acids.

Benefits of Fish Oil
1. For The Heart-
Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide.
Studies have shown that people who eat a lot of fish have much lower rates of heart disease.
There are a number of risk factors for heart disease, and many of these appear to be reduced by fish or fish oil consumption.

2. Lower Cholesterol And Blood Pressure-
It can increase levels of HDL (the "good") cholesterol. However, it does not appear to reduce levels of LDL (the "bad") cholesterol

3. For The Brain And The Nerves-
Your brain is made up of nearly 60% fat, and much of this fat is omega-3 fatty acids. Therefore, omega-3s are essential for normal brain function (27, 28).
In fact, some studies have shown that people with certain mental disorders have lower omega-3 blood levels
4. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-
A number of behavioral disorders in children, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), involve hyperactivity and inattention.
Given that omega-3s make up a significant proportion of the brain, getting enough of them may be important for preventing behavioral disorders in early life.
5. Alzheimer’s Disease-
Studies have shown that fish oil and omega-3 supplementation can improve symptoms of depression.
Moreover, some studies have shown that oils rich in EPA help reduce depressive symptoms more than DHA.
6. Anxiety And Depression-
Depression is predicted to become the second leading cause of disease burden globally by 2030.
Interestingly, people with major depression appear to have lower blood levels of omega-3s.
7. For The Bones And The Joints-
During old age, bones can begin to lose their essential minerals, making them more likely to break. This can lead to diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
Calcium and vitamin D are known to be very important for bone health, but some studies have suggested that omega-3 fatty acids can also be beneficial.
8. For The Eye | For The Skin-
Similarly to the brain, omega-3 fats make up an important part of the structure of the eye. Evidence has shown that people who don't get enough omega-3s have a greater risk of eye diseases

9. For The Immune System
Long chain omega-3 fatty acids may help to boost the immune system by enhancing the functioning of immune cells, according to new research. ... But new findings now show that DHA-rich fish oil enhances the activity of white blood cells known as B cell – so challenging the idea that fish oil is only immunosuppressive.
