1) The National Museum of Anthropology
This is home to the famous Aztec calendar. This is located in a huge park in Mexico City. The museum has a concerted collection of archaeological artifacts (both originals or replicas) from several ancient cultures in Mexico, which includes Olmec, Maya, Mexica, Golfo, Aztec, and others.
2) Academia Gallery
This is home to Michelangelo’s David. Located in Florence, Italy it is known for its amazing collection of statues which includes Michelangelo’s David. One of Europe’s first drawing schools; it is abode to an extensive collection of Italian painters of the like Domenico Ghirlandaio, Sandro Botticelli, Pontormo, and Andrea del Sarto.
3) The Vasa Museum in Stockholm
This is the abode to the best-preserved shipwreck in the world. This is a maritime museum which is home to the worlds only existing preserved 17th-century warship, named the Vasa. The ship sank in the middle of Stockholm in the year 1628 and was not rescued for restoration until 300 years later. The 69-mile long warship is somewhat fully intact.
4) The National Gallery of Art
This owns the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Western Hemisphere. The museum has two buildings: one holds paintings from the fourteenth through the eighteenth centuries and the other portrays modern art.
5) The Hagia Sophia Museum
This is known for its incredible collection of mosaics. It was previously a church, later a mosque, next to Hagia Sophia Museum which is an architectural marvel with 30 million gold tiles throughout its interior, and a wide, flat dome which was considered as an impressive engineering feat when it was constructed in the 6th century.
6) The Instituto Richardo Brennand
This has one of the largest collections of the armory in the world. The institute in Brazil has several European and Brazilian art, swords, armor and historical artifacts in an artificial medieval castle, created in the Tudor style.
7) The Borghese Gallery, housed in a Villa in Rome.
This has a good collection of art from the Borghese family. Today the collection includes some of the best masterpieces of Italian sculpture of the 17th and 18th century and also has four rooms dedicated to the works of Bernini.
8) The Musee du Louvre in Paris
This is about 60,000-square-feet. The Louvre is a popular museum in the world but was not originally built as a museum. The structure was actually a fortress. The Louvre didn’t become a museum until 1793. The museum now has about 35,000 masterpieces and some of the notable pieces of art in existence are: Liberty Leading the People, Venus du Milo, Milon de Crotone, Raft of the Medusa, Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss and the Mona Lisa.
9) Inhotim
This is a giant art gallery in southeast Brazil. The Inhotim was founded by a mining billionaire Bernardo Paz, the art museum was once his own personal farm which he converted into a contemporary art space, and was opened to the public in 2006.
10) Museum of New Zealand
This is also called Te Papa Tongarewa, which means “the place of treasures of this land.” The Museum is located in Wellington. Te Papa is the national museum and permits visitors to explore the treasures and stories of New Zealand. They have collections of art, history, Maori and the natural environment.
11) Gold Museum in Bogota, Columbia
This has the largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold. It has over 33,000 items of gold and emeralds made in pre-Hispanic times. The collection includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, breastplates, masks, figurines, and rings created centuries ago.
