This initiative protects the consumers from unjust business policies. According to a http://www.lahiriassociates.com, this law gives the customer a clear-cut idea about the product and probably ill effects of using the same.
For example, while buying a perishable item like packaged juices or milk from the store, the manufacturer must mention the ingredients of the product, the manufacturing unit where the product was packaged and the date of expiry. Such information helps the consumers in making an informed choice.
Freedom to choose:
Consumers are legally free to choose between variety of products, and services available in the market. This right restricts the organisations manufacturing and selling similar products to form a cartel and establish a monopoly. With the help of this right, the bargaining power of the customer is preserved. However, in the Indian market the situation is quite dicey. Many of the essential industries like natural resources or telecommunications are controlled by an alliance of close-knit group of few people or families.
According to legal experts, this situation will come under control in the upcoming decade.
Right for Safety:
The customer has the right to be protected from goods that are hazardous. This right is directed meant for protecting the interest of the customers against the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. It also protects the customers from doctors, pharmacies and several other industries that have a direct impact on the health of the consumer.
One might arguer that in India the infrastructure related to quality testing and arrangement is not in top-notch standard. It leads to compromising the health and safety of the consumers. However, the conditions are changing and with time the customers are demanding better quality products and safety from the manufacturer.
Freedom to redress the issue:
The consumer must be able to redress the issues against the unfair business models, hazardous products and other issues with the product seller or manufactures.
