It is quite difficult to deal with the dry and damaged hair when you already applied a lot of experiment on your hair and allowed negligence on it. Each of our hair strands has three layers - inner layer known as medulla that is surrounded by the middle layer, the cortex, and the outer layer is named as the cuticle. This outer layer protects your hair and when it gets damaged, our hair becomes dry and brittle. All the chemical inputs combined with the factors like sun, pollution, and the heat lead to having dry and damaged hair.
There are a lot of ways to identify damaged hair and some of them are as below:
Rough Texture: The easy way to identify if your hair is damaged is to hold the hair upside down and run your fingers through the hair ends. If the ends stick and feel rough, it has a higher possibility to be damaged.
Dull Look: Damaged hair lacks the shine look, instead, making the hair look dull. Once the cuticles get damaged, the hair shafts stop shining. Noticing no shine in your hair even after a deep conditioning treatment directly refers to the sign of damaged hair.
Split Ends: Take a bit of your hair and twist it gently. Look carefully at the ends of your hair and if you notice the ends split into two, your hair is damaged and it’s time to give your hair a trimming.
Lack Of Moisture: Dry hair is not always damaged but the damaged hair is obviously dry. If your hair does not look conditioned no matter how much you tried, it is a definite sign of damaged cuticles unable to seal in the moisture.
Extreme Breakage: If your hair breaks when you comb it or run your fingers through it, it is a sure sign of damaged hair. The tensile strength of your hair shaft gets reduced when the cuticle is damaged.
High Porosity: When the cuticle gets lifted, it becomes much easier for the moisture to pass and the external collected in the hair shafts, starts to swell making your hair frizzy.
Lack Of Elasticity: Our hair can stretch to a certain point before it breaks and snaps. The elasticity of the damaged hair is far lesser than the healthy one. If your hair breaks easily, it’s an obvious sign of damage and Hair Loss for Women.
Too Many Tangles: In case of healthy hair, you can see the smooth hair shafts while in case of damaged hair you will find the hair getting tangled up and resulting in knots. The dryness makes it double harder to get such tangles out and much easier to break.
Once you are done with identifying your damaged hair, it’s a higher time to take some effective steps to retain the health and shine of your hair. Here are some suggestions as provided by Hair Loss Treatment to help you get back your actual hair length and texture:

Trim Damaged Hair Ends: If your hair appears with split ends, start with getting a trim before you work on retaining your healthy hair look. Sometimes, a simple trimming of your damaged hair is enough to revive your hair. It is always advisable to get a hair trim once every three months.
Avoid Hot Styling Tools: Once you noticed your hair damaged, it’s high time to throw away your hot styling tools. Heat is another thing to damage the cuticles. Avoiding heat will help your hair recover in a speedy way. So, let your hair dry naturally and adopt those styles that don’t include heat.
Get Away From Hair Colors and Other Chemicals: Like heat, chemicals are also enemy of our hair. And these chemicals are included in colors when trying out dying, bleaching, and perming our hair. Once you identify your hair with damaged signs, it is highly recommended to get away from such chemical treatments.
Use Sulfate-Free Shampoos and Conditioners: When it is about shampoo and conditioner, always choose the natural hair products that are devoid of harsh chemicals like sulfate or sodium lauryl free.
Don’t Forget to Use Oil: Oiling the hair is the best method to get rid of damaged hair. So, feed your hair with oil frequently and especially two hours before shampooing. A good massaging with oil makes a protective barrier around the cuticle and nourishes the hair shaft. You can use different oils like coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil to get better results.
Now, you know how to identify the damaged hair and repair it, then what are you waiting for? Get started with following the above tips and remember that reviving the hair cannot be done overnight, it will take time - like some weeks. So, have patience and take care of your hair.
