Women face challenges in every phase of life and in every industry they enter. Be it a mother or a CEO, they face some extra hurdles. Especially in a country like India which is a male dominated society. There are boundaries set for women which when broken are blamed for expecting more from the universe. The challenges faced by women are usually different than what men face. Things are changing, world is changing. Therefore, luckily the challenges have reduced till some extent yet are difficult to overcome.

Below are the mentioned common challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.

1. Family and societal restrictions.

Most common and tough issue. This particular one doesn’t let women entrepreneurs take an initiative or even start a business. They are either discouraged or not supported at all. Many people in India still feel that women should take care of the house while men will work and earn money. Being a mother and working is a still not accepted in the many parts of the world. Educational and family background of their in-laws and husband makes a big difference. It is important that we start supporting women to achieve their dreams.

2. Education.

A large number of girls are don’t even have the privilege of going to the college, at times not even school. Large part of the population is illiterate. Illiteracy is the cause of most of the problems. Be it unemployment, low-income, dowry, etc. illiteracy is the reason. Similarly, if women are not educated how will they even start a business and run it successfully for a long term. Training also adds up to education. Design Thinking Abilities help entrepreneurs to think creative and improve problem solving skills.

3. Limited Finance.

Finance is the most basic and important factor to run a business. Women have less access to finance. Raising capital is more difficult when an organization is owned by women. Banks also end up discouraging women thinking that they are less credit-worthy. They don’t get investors easily. Nor they have any property or asset on their names.

4. Competition

Cut-throat competition from men who are more benefited than women makes it harder for the survival of women entrepreneurs. India is one of the leading nation for start-ups, while the percentage of women owned start-ups is way too low.

5. Balance

It is tough to balance work life and personal life. Being pregnant, being a mother, house-wife and then looking after the business is tough. Though many of them have been successfully in managing the balance between both. While for men it is easier as they don’t take a role in handling the kids and household. For women, they have to give first priority to kids and end up giving less attention to business.

Most of these issues can be solved with the support of the family and societal such as banks and institutions. There have already been successful women CEOs, women entrepreneurs who have set amazing examples. There are some India Most Powerful Women in Business. When opportunity given women have shown ground-breaking miracles in every field and every industry. It’s time we encourage them and uplift them.
